Can i beat on my new SI
I just bought a 2006 si and wanted to know if i have to break it in first or if i can stomp on it every once and awhile. I heard that its better for the engine if you do punch it a few times and i also heard you should drive it normal till like 3,000 miles. So are you guys cooking your new civics? or should i just drive it slow for now on?

Doesn't help me

i redlined right out of the dealer onto the freeway (no joke) but I got the sorry *** R18 motor
Honestly, a litle redline here, a little redline there isn't going to do any damange, otherwise they won't let it rev
really, it's a k-series motor built off the pricinples of the allmotoaBseries motors..
with your name, i'd image you've built a b-series motor, how'd you treat it? do the same to your k-series

I had that concern. I mashed on my car once a day until I reached 1000k miles. Then I noticed my car feels more different and more power comes out. Then around 1500k miles, I noticed an easier time using the clutch. Those experiences are on me, what about you other guys or girls?
I guess I'm of the "old school". I drove my car like normal. no punching it or anything (it is an auto btw). But when my brother bought his brand-new car, he drove like a maniac because "the dealer told him to" so I guess it just depends...
I'd be real nice to it for like 1,000 miles and then go crazy.

There's a website where this guy talks about engine break in and whatnot. Pretty much what it says is getting on the car the first 1000 miles is best for it. It allows for the engine seals to seal better.
read the owners manual. there is a section about breaking in ur motor. i just got mine a few hours ago. it says take it easy on the brakes for the first 200 miles. no stomping on em. take it easy on the motor for the first 600 miles. after that, u followed ur manual so all problems can be blamed on honda and not ur foot. each person is different. so do it how u want, but that is what honda recommends

Yep. Folow the manual. We just had a thread about this and that was the general consensus. Do what Honda says to do with their own cars, they know best. And don't change the oil for the first time until the specified interval, it has additives that aid in the break in process. (I think the first oil change is 10000/5000 severe)

The oil life calculation is based soley on km.....it has nothing to do with how hard you drive it

That's false. I'm at 2k miles and 50% oil life. From what I heard it knows your driving habits

I noticed that around 2000 miles when I let off throttle in low gears (1,2,3) theres SIGNIFICANTLY less lurch/sudden slowdown and it gradually decellerates now finally, sooo much nicer. Pain in the *** to have it feel like you slammed on the brakes cuz you let off the gas in 3rd or 2nd
p.s: When Im on the highway I rev the hell out of it. Second chirps real good =P
