Default Rate my welds! (New Pics!) (6/27)

I've been welding for about 2 weeks now, and i'm starting to build a basic log turbo kit for my car, due to work I haven't had much time to get it finished but here's the start to the manifold. I'm using a sync 200 w/ runner, this was at about 120 amps. I dont have any pics of the penetration yet.

Any advice is well appreciated

Here are some new pictures from today! (6/27)

Here's a picture of the penetration (I'm not to sure what it should look like)

Thanks! some of the areas we're really hard to get into, mainly because the sync 200 comes with this HUGE torch lol. my next purchase is definitely a smaller torch

hrmm .. more so .. watch the puddle as you go .. the middle runner looks good. the one on the left looks very cold as you see the weld sit on top of the metal. that woudl be where its gonna crack. the fillet between runner and headflange looks good very clean i woudlnt expect that from 2 weeks

Nice welds for only 2 weeks of practice. Get us some picture of the inside of the manifold so we can judge how much penetration you are getting out of ur welds. What filler are you using on that manifold?

308L 3/32s for the runners and 3/32 309L for the flange to runners. I'll take some pics of the inside of it today.

i spy some sugaring on your internal pic, you should either lower your heat on your initial pass / add more filler or backpurge.

backpurge is the only logical way to get rid of that... if he is not gonna backpurge, he is gonna get sugaring... I would rather see a little bit of sugaring and knock it off with a die grinder, than not see full penatration...

Good job for only two weeks of work!

diffintly 2 big thumbs up, I though welding a nice bead that has no variation was going to be easy, till you start welding at those angles going in circles lol

Update New Pics!!

I tried back purging with a secondary tank yesterday, it didn't work out so well, not like some of you guys on here. I had it flowing right around 5 CFM but there was no way i could secure the hose in the backside of the manifold without it tearing the aluminum foil. By the way, are you supposed to put the hose closest to the side you are welding or furthest from the hose?

I haven't used the pulse yet actually, on some things i'll just cool the bead, then move to the next and heat it up, i suppose it acts the same as pulse. I've heard thats the wrong way to do it, and the best way is to just keep a consistant heat and dipping more. However when I do that, I end up getting a fat grey bead

Last night I turned the heat to around 80 amps for a 3/8'' mild flange to .065 pipe, kept the heat at about 70% and tried to just move in a steady stream without cooling, and dipping more, and ended up with about 2 inches of the best beads i've seen from myself
