Default Help on painting Rims.

I have stock rims on my 5th gen . I want to paint them with some special paint I bought at Auto Zone that just for your rims. But should I just spray the stuff on my rims or should I prepair them in any way? I would appreciate all advice.

You need to de-gloss the entire surface you want to paint with some fine sandpaper (200 or so is pretty good) and then clean it very thouroughly before you paint with carb cleaner, paint thinner, etc. Then apply many thin coats @ 5-10 min intervals.

My 5th gen is pearl white and I was thinking of painting my rims either gun metal, dark bronze, or gold. But I can't see which would look best. What do you guys think?

just take a fine grit sandpaper... 200 grit to be precise... take it all over the surface of the wheels... after thats done... take something paint thiner, brake cleaner, wheel cleaner whatever you perfer to clean them with and clean them... take your paint and put on really light coats in like 10 minute intervals... until the wheel is painted all the way... and if you really want it to shine and look good.. go buy some clear coat and do the same light coatings til you think it looks good enough... i usually do 5 light coats of clear on one wheel

Hey I just thought of something!
You know how on the prelude typeSH rims, the wheels have some kinda clear coat on them or something was is that because I know its not bare aluminum. Can that be removed? If it can then after I can just smooth out the wheel, cleanit, and paint it! What do you think guys is this a good idea???

well thats what the sandings for the get rid of the clearcoat and to smooth out and lil ruff spots on the wheel... and if you want before u sand take some paint thiner and clean it thatll help with the stripping of the clear coat...

whats with all the sanding? why not just spray paint stripper on them. let it eat away the clear coat. then sand off any remnants and start painting.

All the sanding is for a reason. Without it your paint or primer will not stick very well.
