Default brake dust covers - yes or no?

Searched, but couldn't find anybody else using these (maybe there's a reason?) Anyhoo, some background first - my '01 Lude is a daily driver in the Northeast, so no matter what I do, the brake rotors rust and look like crap. Exhibit A:

I figured, I don't race my car or do autocross, so it's not like I need extra air flowing over the brakes. So I got these things:

Anybody has any kind of an experience with these covers?

I think they look terrible. I would never put those on my car. If you just wash real good in that area, it usually takes care of the rust and brake dust.

Horrible. I had rather wash my wheels everyday if it was necessary to keep them clean.

With the salt on the Boston roads in the winter and the torrential rains in the summer, keeping the rust off is freakin' impossible. Are there brake rotors that just don't rust, period?

A zinc coated rotor like a Brembo (for example) will not rust. I don't know for sure about other brands, but I have Brembo drilled rotors and they do not rust at all, even on the wear surface of the rotor.

do you have to order a 'special' zinc coated rotor....because you can tell that to my brembo fronts who i had to use a pry bar to get the wheels off 2 nights ago

I guess you would really have to double check into the actual rotor you're looking at before you buy it and make sure it's zinc coated. Brembo probably makes non-coated ones also...

you can spray high temp paint in the areas that don't touch the pad.

works for me (and i have brembo blanks) they aren't zinc coated. if they are, they still rust right next to the rim area.

No offence, but the 2 guys claiming no rust are from Texas.

I have a friend with zinc coated rotors on his Accord and they still rust.

Any more input from people above the snow belt?

Haha, good point. We only have warped rotors here in TX.

Use a wirebrush to clean the rust off, prime, then paint that area black (or whatever color you prefer)

also, check this stuff out http://www.eastwoodco.com/shop...16026
