Need advice on value of beater 88 EF Hatch w/B16a swap bad tranny
The hatch was bought by a family member who wanted to jump on the bandwagon...
He paid 3500 for it about 6 months ago. It has a "low mile" JDM B16A complete
swap.(Motor mounts, ECU, all work done by a shop.) Coil-overs, and a shitty primer job.(Straight body, clean title.) Its a real beater though. It was gutted out at one time, so interior is back in but you know how that goes, and has been sitting for 2 months now. My aunt had him swap out his tranny in order to pay tickets that he got from being an idiot. (He sold it to a friend with a bad tranny, and thats whats in it now.)
He insist that he can still get the 3500 from it.
What would you consider a decent price?
I was thinking about 2800 or so.
(2000 for swap and 800 for the car.)
Thanks for your time.
BTW: I told him I would pay a few tickets for him if he gave it to me.

I'd say $2000.
Sure to a do-it-yourselfer changing a transmission isn't a HUGE ordeal, and a rustfree body is a major plus.
But you have to put yourself in the average buyer's shoes.....ie, having someone else get the car in reliable running condition. Tranny is costly. Coupled with the fact that the interior is probably jank, shitty primer....tough sell. He's just got to find the right person.

Interior is complete, just the vents and other small things have been riced with white paint.
Other opinions?

2000-2500$ tops. LSD B16 cable trannies are hard to come buy in good condition. You'd pay about 300-500$ depending on condition (with LSD). Then you look at the cost of fixing all the little bits and pieces, your looking at an expansive rebuild. You could throw in an LS cable tranny for like 100-150$ in good shape, car won't be as fast tho.
