Default need filter but no space. now what

i have a t3/t4 on a d16a. i had to cut off a piece of the block. in the first picture i circle it in red. the second picture shows in green where the block covers the turbo's cold side. a regular filter cannot fit in there and i was planning to use a mesh but need some infos on those. how safe are those that i can trust it wont be sucked in by the turbo and get ruin? or is there a pipe i can make to connect it. thanks. also how safe is it to run without a filter? i live in an area where the air is somewhat clean to the sight(smells awlful) and there's never dirt or dust in the air. just hot weather.

Im guessing that is SS Auto? At least try to put a screen on it

EDIT, if I was you I would flip the turbo around, get a new DP or just sell that manny.

No problems??????? your turbo is hitting your block, you dont call that a problem? You had a problem before you even started the car.

it is not hitting the block. i did trim the block down so it will fit. i dont want to reverse the turbo cuz i had my wastegate dumptube fall into the downpipe.

i guess my question is what are the chances of the mesh/screen getting suck into the turbo if i get one?

Not if you clamp it down.....

If you had to trim the block it is because of the flange being installed incorrectly and a total reflection of SS Auto, I say take the manny off, have a competent welder re-weld the flange on the way it should of been before it was sold.

Yes, obviously you want it to not melt and be small enough that rocks dont get in it, I personally would never run a turbo w/o a filter not for the turbo's sake, but for not sucking dust into my engine.

the turbo is hitting the block because the ss auto mani are not for use with ac. he wants to add ac as he posted in another forum, so thats why the turbo is turned the opp. way of its intended purpose. now hopefully you people can disassemble your hate bandwagon and go back to what your doing. as for the question at hand about the filter (which is why he or she is here, not to be hated on) you can go to lowes and get a window screen repair kit. it is a small square piece of window screen, then get a pipe clamp and use it to afix the screen over the inlet of the compressor. I hope this helps and please forgive the town idiots, for they lack sense and know not what they do.(cause now they will start talking ****. right down here \/.)

I'd use screen, like you use for your windows in your house. Problem, you can't buy small quantities, but make sure you use a hose clamp, and put the screen all the way back down to the housing, so you have plenty behind the clamp.

i took a screen, put a peice of panty hose in the middle then folded it over, so it was kind of liek a panty hose sandwhich if u will lol. i used hose clmap and tightened the expletive out of it, it doesent seem liek tis going to budge. but heat will make the hose clamp expand so maybe afte rif gets hot, re tighten it. hopw this helps

you do realize how much surface area you are covering when putting a screen over the inlet... why not put a 1inch exhuast sytem on your car then..

save the screeen for your bowl

I don't remember where I saw the thread posted, but there was this guy that ran into the same problem with his 92-95 greddy kit when he tried to use the greddy 18g on the 15g mani. His inlet also sat behind the tranny bolt. So he called bmcrace.com and they sent him a mani spacer with longer mani studs which brought the turbo out another 1/2-3/4 inch

Here it is!!!

I had an AEM filter on, but it was really quiet and it sounded like it didnt want to spool. I have two layers of aluminum mesh clamped on and it runs and sounds awesome.

I know everyone wants to say it, Give it a few weeks and when the manifold cracks maybe the turbo will swing out and make enough room to run a filter.

grab a old filter and cut it up and take the cloth out to just make your own. i did that for a while and just clamped the cloth on the turbo.

Or you can use the money saved from the SS auto manny and by said spacer. On another note, if said OP would of said this is an AC manny, he would of saved us all a great deal of hating.

ok how tight should the screen be on the turbo. i dont mean the clamp, i mean should i leave some slack for the screen or should the screen be firmly tight over the diameter of the turbo.
