what color is the brake fluid, if it is dirty have the fluid flushed. If the problem continues it could be the brake master cylinder. I would change the fluid, make sure it is bleed well (no air in brake lines), and if that dosent fix it.? Another problem could be the pads, take off the front wheel and look between the rotor and caliper, on the caliper side you will see a thin dirty metal shim, the backing plate for the brake pad, and the pad. If you dont have any brake pad left this could also be a problem. good luck

Bleed your brake fluid. If the problem is not resolved you have a bad master cylinder.

I have the same problem on my '96. I'm bleeding the fluid this Sat. and hopefully the problem will be gone.

One question for you. When you are stopped at a light or whatever, do you notice that the brake pedal will feel stiff and then fall to the floor? I had an EG Civic that that happened to. The pedal would be OK, and then all of a sudden it would fall to the floor. If this is happening to you, it is most definitly the master cylinder. They are pretty cheap to replace, so it's no biggie. My Civic cost $220 for parts and labor @ the mechanic I always go to. If you want to do the labor yourself, it will, of course, be much cheaper.
