Default D15B7 Timing Issues

OK I have a D15B7 and the timing belt shredded some teeth. So I took it off and put another timing belt on. I aligned the crank sprocket with the arrow on the oil pump. When it came time to align the cam one I had some problems. The two lines on the sides couldn't be parallel with the head and still have the one on the bottom be lined up with the pointer on the timing belt cover.

What is the proper procedure. Yes I have a manual and it wasn't very discriptive. It said to line the side lines up to the head and the bottom one on the pointer which can't be done. I heard from someone there are marks on the crank pulley to align on the cover, but the book didn't mention it.

it doesnt have to be dead perfect how far off was it? also it could be because there is still slack in the belt.

your crank should be like this l-l-l----l line up the single mark to the mark on the block or the mark on the cover, either one is the same. get the cam as close as you can to having the two marks line up with the head surface. put the belt on starting with the crank, cam, then the waterpump and tensioner. if the marks still like up the way you set them ( they should) then tighten the tensioner, rotate the crank at least 6 full rotations counterclockwise. line marks up again, if all is well loosen the tensioner bolt and turn cam pulley counter closewise 3 teeth, tighten tensioner bolt and your done. check your ignition timing with a timing light and your good to go

One thing he forgot to mention, before you turn the 3 teeth only loosen the tensioner a 1/4 turn. And you do this to remove any slack out of the timing belt. The reason you turn counter clockwise is the keep the slack, if any on the waterpump side of the timeing belt and not on the camgear. This way your timing with line up right.
