WTF oil strainer/oil pan nuts and bolts
stupid question, why are some of the fasteners on the oil strainer/pan nuts, and some are small bolts? why not just use one or the other? and would it be a problem if I used a bolt where a nut used to be? lol
reason I ask is because when I got my block back, for whatever reason, they removed the studs for the nuts, so I had to use the bolts instead (luckily I had a few extra). now Im all paranoid my pan is gonna fall off lol.

I have always assumed its for ease of installation. if you think if it this way, when you are under a car doing a pan gasket, the studs make it easier to line up the gasket to the pan instead of having 19 bolts to make go through all the holes. The studs just help you to line everything up quicker.
The machine shop most likely had to remove the studs to get the block on the mill or boring machine.
and FYI - many other manufacturers only use bolts and many only use studs.
