Do you guy Feel the cold-air intake is safe for your new Car ? ? ? ?
Do you guy Feel the AEM cold-air intake is safe. I just got it on friday but now I
have this big fear of water. The guy told me I would have to drive it into a lake
to hurt it. I live in So.Cal. I was thinking of buying one of those Injen Hydro Shieldcool air
covers to feel safer what do you guys think?
Do you guys feel the AEM cold-air intake is just as good for the motor as the
stock get up?
Thanks for all the info and input.

Ok let me wrap it up for you.
Stock intake - good throttle response, quiet, filtration is 99%
Aftermarket short ram - louder, a bit more power in the top end, low end suffers, 95% filtration
Aftermarket cold air - still louder, more power throughout power band mostly in the mids around 3k-5k filtration less than 95% because it sucks air from near the ground which is guranteed to be more dirty than air from inside the engine bay or on top of the car
As for water, with a cold air if you drive into a puddle deep enough to suck in water then your introuble. water will suck into the tube and into the motor where the motor will try and compress the water and end up breaking the engine.
if water splashes on the filter, not such big a deal but doing that often will result in pre-mature filter failure and possible water into the engine as well, but not more than a few drops. I dont know if that can really do any harm because Ive heard of water injection but nobody wants muddy water to be splashed onto their filter thats a no no. if you have a plastic cover where the intake is so water cant even hit the filter then you have nothing to worry about. if your intake is hanging in the open where water might hit it, then make a plastic or cardboard cover or some sort of splash guard and you're also fine.
if you live in an area where theres lots of deep puddles, you can saw off a part of the intake to make it shorter and not reach down so deep and not lose any real performance numbers that can be considered significant.

People debate this all the time. What it comes down to is are you stupid enough to drive your car into a 1-2 ft deep puddle? If so dont get a CAI. I Had a CAI on my Prelude with no Bypass valve and drove it for 2 year and didnt have a bit of trouble. ( I was just a bit more careful when it rained)
Since you live in SoCal, you know what the weather is like. Like the guy told you, if you drove into a lake then you'd have trouble. But, we don't get much rain here so you really have nothing to worry about.
I loved my CAI and would like to get another one for my new car but haven't gotten around to it yet.

think of a straw........you have to completely submerge the filter to induce hydrolock.......I've had a CAI for 5 years now.....drove in many crazy rainstorms with my type r.....and a few in my si.....no problems

you'll be fine bro.. just dont fully get the filter submerged and dont drive over any deep puddles. I've been driving in this damn flooding and **** here and no problems. been through some deep water.
if you do happen to hit a big puddle or cant avoid it the best thing i could think of is to put it in neutral and coast over it.. slowly.

nah! ive lived in 626/909 and all over so cal. our weather is unpredictable. i hit a puddle over in rowland heights once. the puddle was unexpected and i couldnt avoid it unless i merged into the car in the lane next to me. sure enough my car stalled and my homies and i had to push it in the rain.
i lerned my lesson and got a by pass valve and a shield. but i also NEVER went over another puddle that deep. i usually drove a different car when it rained!
