Default What would I give up by buying an old Tig welder?

Basically I dont have the $1500 to drop on a TIg welder right now.. with $1500 being cheap.

I have found some machines on ebay that are probably 10+ years old going for around $700 which are AC and DC.
Besides **** like HF start, what kind of quality would I get out of a machine like this ? Is there any reason not to spend the $700 and save it for a better machine, knowing that it would be several years away?

Thanks

you can buy an old syncrowave for a couple hundred dollars.

at my old shopw e had a miller syncrowave 300 from prob 1975 and we picked it up used for like 400 dollars. that machine kicked ***, it had a water cooled torch ect.

u can get a 180sd from someone used for around a thousand. wheere do you live, ill sell you my 180sd.

im buying a thermal arc 185stw in a week

The stability of the arc is much better with the newer machines in my experience.
