92 sedan, right now I have 175/70/R13 crap tires on there and they squeal when I take a corner not even going that fast. I was hoping that I could fit some wider tires on there to help with launches. Can I fit 185? 195? How big can I go? All I've ever had on the stock wheels are 175's.

Sumitomo HTR 200 comes in a 205/60/13.

They are a little wide, but they will fit(I have personally seen it).

wider wont help much but getting better tires will. the issue you run into is that very few performance tires, the ones that wont squeal when you take a corner slow, and will let you take corners fast, come in a 13". if you _simply_must_ have steelies, at least get 14" because then you have a few options such as the yokohama es100, and falken azenis come in a *few* 14" sizes.

but if you are dead set on running the mostly **** tires available in 13 but think getting wider will help, you may be able to fit up to about 185 section width on there.

205/60/13 has virtually the same outer diameter as 175/70/13. the 205/60 is 1/10" larger. no it wont drop his car. but that tire size isnt approved for 5" wide rims, only 5.5"-7.5"

 

So bottom line is, I can fit 205 wide tires on my rims?

 

ya, id say keep 13" , help his unsprung weight out a lil, id say if it fits expletive it put em on and go drivng

 

you cant fit 205/60/13 on 13x5 rims. pretty much the only tire in that size needs a 13x5.5
*edit* there are some R-compound tires in a 13" size, most needing a wider rim though, and not recommended for street use because of warmup time needs and little breakaway warning.

 

So then I can fit a 195 tire on these rusty pieces?

What you can fit and what is "recommended" is two completely different things.

You CAN put 205's on your 5" wide steelies. I HAVE SEEN IT.

just get 195, and if those dont work, then get 185 =] trail and error

you my friend are a dumbass the first couple of guys were trying to save you from wasting your money...ive got some rusty steelies that are 14s and you can put a decent tire on them for not alot of money....too bad your sleeper image wont help if your cars not fast
