weird rear brake problem?
the other day i was putting my rims on the car and on the rear passenger brake i noticed a weird problem. the e-brake was up and the car was on a jack. when i went to tighten the lug nuts to 80 foot pounds of torque, i saw that the brake wasnt engauging. i thought that was weird so i told my gf to get inside the car and step on the brakes to hold the disk brakes while i torqued down the lug nuts. is this a frequent problem for civics/integras? and what can i do to fix it. i did a search but didnt come up with anything helpful, any help would be great.
bump. a friend told me this was a semi-common problem usually when the rear driver side grabs harder then the rear passenger side. i suppose this is why i roll back when parked on a steep incline.. now i leave it in gear. but ttt for some answers
i torqued them to 80 first in the air then when i set it on the ground i retorqued them again. from what i heard im suppose to retorque them again in about a week. but u have any clue on wassup with my rear passenger brake?

Like Ken said don't torque when it is in the air. Lower the car until there is a bit of weight on the tire and then torque the sucker down. Yes it is a good idea to retorque them in a week or so, again....on the ground.
The reason could be that one cable is a little more stretched than the other, perhaps one cable is snapped. Who knows. Try the ek/eg forum for help. Ultimately the parking brake can only take a certain amount of load.
And you car should not roll back when you set the parking brake on an incline, other wise it would just keep rolling. What is probably happening is the weight is shifting as the front brakes are no longer supporting the weight but rather the rear brakes are, all cars do this a bit.
Hope this helps,
Cheers.
