advice on which block to use for boosted H22?
Hey guys. I have an H22A in my car right now. the motor has a bit of km on it. Now i aslso have a spare JDM H22A in my garage with 70000 km on it. now does the crank get unbalanced or damaged in anyway with age?? or should i just build up the new motor? I don't know if i should put the new motor in my car and build my old motor? thanks guys
Ok, this is what I would do. I would sell or part out your h22, get a f22a1, turbo kit, a good EMS, all the turbo ecessorys, a h23a1 head, swap the head off the f22 with the h23. then put put it together, then there you go.

the f22/h23 or f23/h23 combo is for people who have nothing to begin with and want to build up a cheap car for boost, if he already has TWO h22s, why get a lesser performing h23 head???
for the op, you have a few options, if you are going for a lot of power (300+ whp), you will have to resleeve a block no matter what it is, if your goal is 200-300 whp, you could keep stock internals and not resleeve, whichever h22 has better leakdown/compression test results would be the one i would boost, if you want to change pistons and rods while keeping costs low by not resleeving and staying under 300ish whp, i would probably get an f22 block, forged pistons and rods for whatever compression ratio you desire, put it in the f22 block, and put one of the h22 heads on
another option that the previous poster brought up is going out and getting an f22 or f23 block and an h23 head (or use one of your h22 heads), this setup you can get from junkyards/classifieds/ebay for very cheap, you can build while keeping your car running, and you could sell on of the h22s or part it out to make up some money
also, if youre trying to stay cheap or use stock parts, look in the F.A.Q. and search around to see the different R/S ratios, compressions, and strokes that you can have by combining different f and h blocks, cranks, pistons, and rods

thanks alot guys. ok my goal is 15psi street and 25psi track. i'm going to fully build the bottem end. (pistons, rods, sleeved) i was just wondering if my crank in my older H22 is ok even though it has 150K or more on it?
thanks again
thanks again
first off I'd like to know where you found a JDM H22 with a H22a stamp>>> m'kay??? 2nd at least your smart enough to sleeve you block before you build it...IF i was you I'd start building the other block..keep the 150.xxx motor in your car..be nice to it...wait til your motor is done the BAM boost baby! then you can sell your USDM motor for whatever....If you wern't sleeving a block I'd say stay with the USDM H22 because of the lower compression 10.0:1 vs JDM 10.6:1 amd throw some Mahle pistons in there boost it @ 10 psi with a good tune......might lasts a week a month a year! who knows with a boosted car????? good luck dude

What do you mean? JDM H22's are stamped H22A. H22A1 is the USDM 4th gen motor. H22A4 is the USDM 5th gen motor.
This is stamped on my JDM H22
