Weird AC smell?
A musty smell from the A/C is caused by residual moisture on the evaporator growing mildew after the car is shut off. Once the air stops blowing over the evaporator, the moisture just sits there until more fresh air is blown across it.
The solution is to run the fan with the a/c off for a minute or so before shutting the car off. This will dry up any remaining moisture.

YES! Me too, it has kinda a chemical smell or something, very pungent. I notice it more on Max AC. I dont really want an air freshener in mine either. Ehh i'll deal with it.

Air fresheners on brand new cars?? wtf??
Smell could be the mildew theory and/or just the "new" plastic smells of the air ducts.

HAHA I couldnt agree with you more! I kept my windows closed for the first month having the car just to keep the new car smell.
No food and NO smoking. I know this is off topic but I just got the factory rubber floor mats and now I dont have to worry about always trying to keep my carpet clean to. No more.

Couldn't have explained it better myself.

If it's an older car, you can try spraying some Ozium or Lysol in your vents and running it on recirculate for 5 minutes with all the windows up. This will help kill any bacteria that may have made your evaporator their home. If you REALLY want to get rid of it, you can purchase an evaporator cleaner. These are filled with a compressed foam cleaning agent.
To maintain a clean smell in your car afterwards, follow the tip above about recirculating the air with the A/C off when you park the car for long periods of time.

Cabin microfilters are usually good for a year/15k miles. If it needs to be changed sooner than that, it's a ripoff. Of course, if you drive on a lot of dirt roads, it will need to be changed with greater frequency, but certainly not when the car is brand-new.
