Default Mugen N1 ECU

Is anyone using a MUGEN N1 ECU on their jdm97 ITR or 98 spec-R? If so, how is the performance such as vtec engagement and cutoff? Would it be a good ECU for drag purposes? Thanks much in advance.

VTEC engagment is 4,700 RPM
Rev limiter is 9,100 RPM
It would not be the best ECU for drag racing

<-- Needs to argue

I have a freind that had the Mugen ECU in a near stock R and he dragged it a bunch and was in the very very low 13s. I think he might have even hit a 12 something...

It might be intended for drag use but it certainly does work well.

why wouldnt it be a good ECU for drag? 4700 engagement sounds really nice. my R opens at 5600-5700. I also failed to mention that I would like to use the ECU for daily driving as well. My car is not just for drag purposes.

A genuine OBD2A DC2R Mugen N1 ECU is mapped for a JDM B18C with Mugen headgasket (+0,3comp), Mugen header, Mugen intake, race cat, and Mugen exhaust.

If you don't have all these modifications on your car, or something similar, you'll get minimal to zero gains with this ECU.

Here's a small clip of me on a track day with a genuine Mugen N1 ECU:

I do have a TODA valve train, PCT pistons and Mugen 2layer gasket, will that be suitable for the Mugen ecu for daily driven and race purposes.

Yes, but remember to check the a/f and adjust fuel pressure accordingly.

As long as you've got about 11.4 compression, stock cams and injectors, and a good I/H/E combo you should be fine.

The Mugen ECU runs lean on a stock B18C5. I don't think it's a good idea to try to use this ECU on a car with CTR pistons and a thin headgasket.

At that point, you should really look into a full standalone.

I would either go http://www.hondata.com, or chip and program your own OBD1 ECU http://www.pgmfi.org.

Definitely read the above link, too. Great read...

I don't know where you've got this info, but it si dead wrong . Perhaps you've tried some knock of OBD1 Mugen program?

A genuine OBD2A Mugen N1 ECU runs quite a bit richer than stock. It does so on my B18C6, so it should run even richer on B18C5 as it has lower compression. On a 11.4 comp motor it runs perfect.

As long as you use this ECU on the right motor it is great. Probably cheaper than buying a standalone EMS as you don't need tuning.

The downside is that if you plan to upgrade your motor in the future with ie bigger cams it wont work very well.
