I think it's a front hub bearing but I'm not sure if it's the left or right side. I feel it in the steering wheel when I take a curve towards the right. Turning towards the left feels fine. Logically, I think it's the left since a right turn puts pressure on the left bearing.

So is it my left or right front bearings and how hard is this to replace?

 

Your guess is probably right, but go ahead and jack the front of the car up and check for an excessive amount of play in the bearings. Grab the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and rock it back and forth.

 

could be either or, sound travels. the best way to tell is jack up the front end. use jackstands with parking brake of course. put in gear and either buy a cheap stethascope or use a very lond screwdriver and place it near where the axle goes in the bearing on the backside and put the other end on your ear and you will be able to hear the roar in the bearing. my opinion on replacement. pull the knuckle and take it to someone that has a press and have them press it out and new one in. its better that beating it out and in.

 

The left side does have some play both at 6/12 o'clock and also 9/3 o'clock. I thought that this means the terminal is bad? I didn't know this technique was used for the bearing

 

Can be for both. "terminal?" It checks for play, period.

You can jack up one front side at a time put it in gear and rev. You will hear the whinning noise increase as you increase the rpms. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!
Use 2nd gear and don't go over 2500rpm. That should be enough for you to hear it.

As for replacing if you want to save some money remove the knuckle and have someone press out and in the bearings. And don't let them use your brake rotor to push it in you will warp the rotors. Happened to a friend of mine. Which is a good story but for some other time.

 

if it's the bearings.. just replace both of them if you're going to keep the car for a while..

 

I have the same problem, but it's more of a high pitch whine or squeel when I have the wheel turned all the way right.
