Default installing coolant temperature gauge & need help selecting proper sensor adapter

Hey all...I'm going to be buying an inline radiator hose temperature sensor adapter for my turbo d16z6 motor, because I am wanting to install the new coolant temp. gauge I bought. There's a pic below, but basically it's a T-fitting that you splice into the upper radiator hose...the hot coolant flows thru it and the temp. sensor sits in a hole at the top. I'm sure you've all seen them

Anyway, they basically come in three sizes...1", 1.25", and 1.5". The INNER DIAMETER of my hose is 1.25", and the OUTER DIAMETER is 1.5". My question is, do I buy the adapter that corresponds to the inner diam. or outer diam. of the hose? None of the companies that make these things seem to even know, let alone respond to messages.

Someone on here must know this...any help is much appreciated

Also...does anyone know if the diameters listed by the sellers of these adapters is the OD of that outer lip, the OD of the main cylinder area, or the ID of the adapter? THANKS!

Sweet, thanks. So then is that to say (for future reference) that radiator hoses are commonly measured by ID?

Whenever you buy ANY kind of tubing from an auto parts store its always measured by the ID.

For future reference (for those of you who may find this thread upon searching for similar info in the future), I ended up ordering the 1.25" adapter. Most sellers list it as 1 3/16". It ended up working. HOWEVER, I had to cram the adapter into my radiator hose reallllly hard. It barely made it in. A 1" size adapter would have been a perfect fit, but I ended up making the 1.25" work.

So long story short, the correct coolant temp sensor inline adapter size for a d16z6 upper radiator hose is 1".
