What in the world are you talking about? What is "Bar'ed", and what is this inspection stuff you speak of? I'm confused. Is an inspection like another word for car show or something, if so car shows are gay. Do you have to have a certain type of motor to enter the inspections or something? What is going on here?

BAR = Bureau of Automotive Repair.
You can run pretty much any engine you want as long as it's available in a USDM model car, you convert OBD where neccessary, and you run the motor and chassis fuel and emissions correctly. Any external mods should be CARB Cert. only. Also, it's a Federal emission law that the motor has to be the same year as the chassis or newer, it can't be older than the chassis.

That pic is hilarius!
Anyway, I have a b16 in my crx, and let me be the first to tell you that the baring process sucks! But can easily be done. It is so stupid, if the car will pass smog than what does it f....in matter!!!
Ok, so first off I have a JDM B16 1st gen. You need to convert all the smog stuff over to 94 Del Sol b16a3 stuff. So that means P30 ECU=converting to obd1, b16a3 throttle body with map sensor mounted on top...yes they did check mine and I failed, have to go back, but I knew that was coming. Also Del sol intake manifold, but I just used Skunk2, mount the carb stickers in the engine bay. Del sol intake, I would just use an aem intake, or I have heard though that some ref's don't trip off of stock boxes or arms, actually I don't think they would know how to tell. I am also putting in a purge control from a del sol just to be safe so it looks exactly like the del sol in case he pulls out his vacuum diagram again, just going to locate it on the firewall like the crx one is. Charcoal canister, but I don't know how the ref would know the difference, one on the vacuum diagram I have looks exactly like my crx one. Will need to run a 4 wire o2 with the p30 obd1 setup. Need an obd1 distributor, go with distributor king. B16a3 headers, I went with DC just because it was the easiest to get my hands on. Make sure you have your wire jumper set up so can check ecu codes. Oh and keep all your papers and recipts, organize them in a folder or something!!! Call 1800-622-7733 and make yourself an appointment. I think that is about it.
This is all just for getting the car bared, not to mention parts that you should replace on doing an engine swap seen here...
http://www.norcalcrx.org/droppedcrxsi/B16a.htm , that is all the stuff I changed over, some costed a pretty penny from the dealer too.
Honestly....and I know almost everyone would say no way, but I say if you don't have to just keep the motor you have, especially if this is your daily driver. Yeah, the b16 in my crx is f..in fast and I get about 27mpg, but a lot of unexpected crap came up, especially all the barring stuff. The engine vibrates like crazy from the engine mounts. The J1 tranny sucks on the highway in 5th doing 80mph's at 5000rpm!, but most people just throw in a LS 5th gear.
If I were to do it again, I would have spent the 5K I invested and just rebuilt the motor/tranny, end of story.

damn, I wrote a staight essay.
oh yeah forgot to mention, I got a d16z6 throttle body, that I am going to have bored out to 60mm by maxbore, it is just like the b16a3, just bore is smaller.

I'm glad, there you go Bart there is the answer. Put that down in your little book next to what JDM, USDM, and CRX means.
