98 prelude h22a problem with oil consumption
ok my g/f bought a 98 lude and it only has 60k on it.... for some odd reason its burning oil like a bad habit but... no leaks that ive found.... it doesnt smoke.... but when you take the oil cap off the smoke rolls on out.... i checked to make sure the cars cooling properly and it is.... im lost now... i was thinking valve seals...!? but i dunno... its baffling me!!!
oh i dunno... i changed the oil in when she bought it.. thats was like a month ago... and it was full then and i just checked it today b/c she was like is it right for the oil light to come on when i turn... i was like no.... so i checked it... and it the time of a month til now.... when i filled it up it took 3qts.... which i know all hondas are know for burning oil but not that much... that ridiculous... i would say shes drove maybe a 1000miles or so... give or take a few...
well i just noticed it t/d and i work at a dealership .. and all my tools are there.... havent rly had time to check it... but im going to get into it tm or on the weekend... i was just rly wondering if anyone on here had a clue about it before i went into investigating on it...!!! but if anyone has any ideas let me know... b.c im kinda confused on this one...!!!

alot of Vtec time will burn oil as fast as gas! mine seems to burn about 2 qts in 6500 miles...im rarely in vtec too. maybe once per tank...
its my g/fs car.. i ride with her all the time and she never hits vtec.... haha... it only hits vtec when i drive it... and thats once in a blue moon.. but this is 3qts in like 800 miles....

yes they are.....my motor JDM H22 goes through 2 quarts a week or 400-500 miles.....Please save me the flaming......
Anyway this is with really really hard driving..you could call me i dunno a vtec junkie! but yeah out of all my vtec motors this one burns the most..I don't know if it just happens to be this one...I know it's probably a combo of rings and valve stem seals....but even when I putt it around. It still burns some......atleast a quart....now I also had a H22a1 a while back, that puppy didn't smoke, burn..NOTHING!!! so what I am doing is waiting till I have enough money to rebuild the motor.......
If I was you I'd take it back to the dealer and be like "what the duece??"
sounds like who ever had the car befor you guys was a meanie to that motor

yea.... they probably was a meanie to that motor... i dunno.. gotta do a compression check and **** to it first... find out if im loosing compression and ill get back to you guys on this
well i put a new pcv valve on the car and we're going to see if that does the trick... but i did check the spark plugs and they where pretty bad off... wrong brand and i think those are burning to hot... so imma get new plugs and **** and try that too... but anyway on the pcv valve... i took the old one off and it didnt click when i shook it... so im kinda thinking that was the problem... a $3 pcv valve.. haha!!

#1- 187
#2- 190
#3- 207

yea.... but where in the hell is the oil going... !?!? thats killing... but i did notice a leak on the back side of the motor... i couldnt tell where it was coming from b/c i guess it had been leaking for awhile and was everywhere... but i took two cans of brake clean and cleaned off rly rly good... so in a cpl days imma see if i cant tell where its coming from... !!! but it wasnt leaking enough for 3 qts to be lost in a 1000 miles
anyone else that might have an idea?????? i checked the oil yesterday... and it was a lil low but nothing to be worried about...

I dunno man
its been a cpl hundred miles ... cause i told her we need to drive it.. so we take every where we go... but i also got find out where that leak on the back side of the motor is coming from.... !!! but im clueless too
so yea i talked to someone about the problem they said its more than likely the head gasket thats leaking oil... crazy world huh... but my g/f is taking to someone today b/c i rly dont have the time to look at it... so i told her to take it to someone who did.. haha.. so ill get back to you on this once again oh yea.. and the said possibly a new engine.. or rebuild the one thats in it...
well the guy told her that her car doesnt like synthetic... ive never heard of it... but imma try non-synthetic oil... and see what that does for the oil problem
