need a new timing belt = new water pump too?
Yeah it is common practice to replace your water pump when doing the timing belt. The reason for this because you are already in there and if you have to replace the water pump later you will have to remove the timing belt and do it all again. It is basically a safeguard and a way to save hassle of doing the job again.
I would change the water pump with the timing belt, especially if you don't know how old the water pump is.

It's one of those 'I've already walked a mile, whats another 10 feet?' situation. I've already yanked everything off and got the T-Belt off, why not go the extra step and do the waterpump. Saves you the hassle of doing it later when it leaks/fails.
