Default ZERO low end power, ok top end, intermitant.

94 Civic EX with over 250k on it. I got this kids car last night so haven't got to check too much yet, however, I thought I'd run this past you guys first. This car has NO power in the lower end, sometimes you have to slip the clutch like mad to even get it to move. Above 4500 it seems to make adequate power. He DOES have a vtec code. Is it possible for it to be stuck on vtec on? I did a search and there was some argument.

Is there anything else you guys have ran into? I have not had a chance to check the Cam/Ignition timing yet, I will later today, however, I feel that is not too much of an issue because it was intermitant at first, somedays ran good, some not. It just sucks all the time now. Thoughts?

Welcome to the N/A SOHC world. But a quarter million miles, you're lucky it goes at all IMO.

Ya I understand it's a high mileage car, and a honda, but there is something wrong with this thing, it's not right at all. It makes too good of power on top end to just be low compression or mileage related.

do a leakdown test. See if you have good compression. If you do, then do a tune up (wires, plugs, dizstributor cap/rotor, oil, air filter...etc)

if he has a vtec code, it is possible that the vtec is engaged and would cause crappy low end. disconnect the vtec lead at the head and try again, just DO NOT rev over 4500.

Why not rev about 4500 with v-tec disconnected? It's just running on the smaller lobe. What am I missing?
