Default What's a good 13" tire.

Hey guys. I got these 8lbs VX rims and I want to use them on my EF for daily driving. The only problem is they are 13" rims, and there isn't alot of good sizes/tires for 13". I want a pretty fat tire that has a half decent side wall (Don't want them to fold over, sturdyness) and I want them to grip half decent (summer only tires). If anyone knows a good size/tire I can use, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't wanna spend more then 500$ an tires either (a good chunk of money for a 13" tire IMO).

Post up what you got .

Your gonna be hard pressed to find anything decent performance wise for a 13. Besides that the only way you can fit a 13 is with stock brakes. And IRC they are only like 5" wide which is super narrow, and gonna limit your width options.I would get a set of HXes and some Azenies. I had that setup on an old car and it was awesome those tires rock, but they are heavy as ****. Hopefully the new Azenies are lighter.

I have a set of 15" rims 6.5 inch wide. Just don't know if I wanna rock those or not. The VX rims just look so nice.

EDIT: Someone told me I can get RA1 in 13"?

In answer to the original question, look into some Sumitomo HTR200s.

Hmm...ok so I spent a bit of time checking out some 13 inch tires, and nothing that I really want.

So I'm changing my original question to what is the lightest 13" tire you can find that has ok gripping action. I called my brother to price something out and he mentioned to me that 2 of my VX rims that I lent to him are now equiped with slicks...so maybe I'll turn the rims into track only rims.

You could sell the vx rims,

I have some yokohama's on mine, which stick well, but def not the stickiest you could get.

Anyway, I think they're 9 pounds, actually. I guess you don't want 14s but the miata 14s only weigh 12 pounds and you can get them for 100 bucks.

VX rims are ~8.5lbs each. I weighed one at 8.4lb and another at 8.6lb (only ones without tires on them apparently) so I average it out to 8.5lb. And in my line of work .5 on the dot gets rounded downwards haha.

I don't want 14s since I already have 15s. It's just....13s are sweet and dropped on a 13" rim looks hot in my opinion. What kind of YOKOHAMAS do you have?

Mine weighed 9 pounds but I guess my scale sucks, sorry!

I got yokohama avid touring cuz they were fairly cheap and had good traction across the board according to whoever (they were the best in my search category). They make stickier versions of the tire though in 13s though, but I forget what they're called.

How are the side walls? Are they stiff? Do you feel alot of play in the tires. That's what I wanna get rid off. I hate feeling like the car is sliding do to tires being weak in the sidewall area.

Hmm, I can't say that too well because I've not driven too many other tires on this car, so I dunno, really, sorry!

That's fine. I'm just still looking for a known light tires (you fuel efficient guys should know an answer) cause 2 of them are mounted with slicks, if I mount light tires in the rear they become decent track rims!

The lightest tires I know of are the LRRs that came on the Honda Insight, but they're 14" tires. A friend figured this out and realized that he would have less weight hx rims and these tires than vx rims and any tires he could find, so that's what he did (got 3mpg out of it as well).

So anyway, my tires aren't ridic light, I know a guy with 11 pound tires on his vx rims, should I ask him what those are?

but they're still a 1 and 1/4" hole saw, various abrasive instruments, and the better part of your evening from going over the hubs on an ef. (or you could pay a machine shop).

as far as tires, you can get a yok ao32r in a 175/60R13 flavor.

I don't mind spending an evening to save 200 bucks over hx rims and have some good looking stuff on my car, but that's just me.

i like em to and used to rock a set(though i like the way hx's look more). i was just adding that they aren't a bolt-on affair due to the difference in hub size, not calling you out.

How much do you guys pay for hx wheels? I only paid $100 for my last set, and $150 for the set before.

I paid 100 shipped for my vx rims, but I've had two friends buy hx rims on ebay for 250 and 275 (both picked up).

Firestone (dont know actual model) 185/70/13. I would have liked the 175's better though. </TD></TR></TABLE>

That's what he said about his 20 pound vx rim/tire combo.

I paid 240$ for my VX rims that had Hankook all seasons on them that had over 90% thread. But stupid me lent them to my bro. He managed to pop one, wear out 2 others, and without me knowing, put slicks on 2 of the rims.

I might rock his Enkei knockoffs with RA1 soon, for the track. But I wanted to get my VX ready to rock.

20lbs vx rims and tires eh...I'm down for that.

Now I'm debating running the 13s or the 15s again. I love my VX rims, but I don't know. I can't run the big brakes I wanna run with them, but I don't wanna part with them either.

toyo RA1's are a R-compound race tire. while i know of a few ppl that are crazy enough to use them on the street, they really arent suitable for everyday driving. plus at $138 per tire, thats above your $500 limit on spending a good chunk of money on 13" tires... same goes for the yokohama a032R.

what you need to be aware of before thinking youre going to get a lot of performance from these VX rims is that the width of the wheel is only 5". you cant fit much on there, no more than a 175 or 185 width tire. sure you can shoehorn a 195 tire on, and have the sidewalls bow out, with only diminishing returns. if you wanted a performance 13" wheel, youd need to get lenso's or panasports with a wide 7-8" wheel width. dont think your VX wheels even come close to that...

i recommend two choices. what someone said before, the sumitomo HTR200. they come in several 13" sizes. its a "summer" tire, decent grip for the cheap price. you can get the 175/50/13 which basically is the smallest diameter tire. its good for changing your gearing, and will have the smallest (stiffer) sidewall. but it gives you a bit of the "vato" look. you can also get the 185/60, a bit wider contact patch and still reasonably fit the 5" wheel width.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...R+200

ive personally used yokohama avid T4 on my 13" honda OEM option wheels. i forget if its the 175 or 185 width tires. but they worked fine. the key is to keep the tire pressures up, high 30's. ive gotten great mileage from them, still have plenty of tread. i used them before as my california "winter" tires, basically for the rain and when im just tooling around town and dont want to waste my azenis at the time. they still provided some grip, surprisingly enough. it was like $125 shipped at the time, couldnt really lose.
