Default Interchangable VSS?

I have a b16 tranny and i need a new speed sensor, i thought any b-series one would work. Is this true?

Isn't there something about you have to switch the gears or something?

It should work. I put a VSS from a '92 cx hatchback into my '99 dx hatch. I assume its the same for the b-series.

Yup Cable VSS are interchangable.
Electronic VSS are interchangable.

is it electronic or cable? in other words, is there a clip from the harness going to it or a long plastic coated wire?

whatever it is...re-read the responses

I call BULLSHIT.

I have a 99 GSR transmission, 1993 D16Z6 VSS and it's NOT interchangable. The bottom part of the D16Z6 one is too deep to fit in the GSR tranny.

So maybe they're either different from OBD1 to OBD2 or B18C from anything else, but they are definitely not 100% changable from electronic or cable, because both of my VSS's are electronic and they are NOT.

first person i have heard of saying that an electronic vss wouldn't work in a tranny, i am using a vss from a d15b8 in my second gen b16a. the only difference i saw was that the gear for the b16a one was metal while the gear on the b8 was plastic, both worked the same. i swapped them because i was getting a code, and when it threw the code again found out it was the wiring.

Do you have a digital camera? Just to update, VSS are interchangable, but you have to use the entire VSS, shaft, gear and everything, not just the unit which is what I was trying to do.

Show pictures cuz my D16Z6 VSS looked exactly like my GSR VSS, bolted on and everything.

For mine it worked, don't know if it will for yours, but it did for mine as long as they're both electronic and they use a gear and 3 prong connector I doubt you'd have problems.

This is what I needed. My S4 tranny vss got busted in shipping (lazy pisspoor shipper) and I was going to strip my vss of my d15b8.

Also will the slave cylinder from my b8 fit the S4 hydro tranny because the tranny mounts are the same?
