I know everyone loves painted moldings, so how do I do it?
Uh yeah, I know most everyone of you guys hate it, so I wanted to make u guys pissed, but dont worry they wont be anything but black. My black moldings are chalky looking. Can i spray paint them black with quality paint after proper cleaning and scuffing and if i take them off and stuff. Do u guys do it ever, and if not how do i get them back to jet black. Thanks guys, and just a reminder, I am not going away from stock colors and lines.
I taped mine off and painted them with paint/bumper trim paint from pepboys. I HIGHLY recommend getting the adhesvie promoter also and spray it on before you paint. The first time I did it the paint started to peel off. I had remove most of it and then I used the adhesive promoter and repainted it. Now I have no flaking
no you dont have to take them off, but it is a lot better to do it that way, and it isnt hard, just go to the parts store and get the bumper coating, or bumper paint, it makes them look pretty damn good, i would suggest taking them off, just to be sure not to get it on your paint, but if you mask off around them well, i think you will be ok
my fiance used krylon fusion flat black to paint his moldings. it's that spray paint that fuses with the plastic and doesn't flake off since it becomes part of the plastic. they came out really nice. i might be able to find some pics... i helped we just taped off and used newspaper to prevent any overspray. just do several light coats instead of one or two thicker coats. takes a little longer but you get a nicer end result
Alright thanks guys, I will take them off just because I am nervous of overspray. 88 rex, what is this adhesive promoter? like a brand name if possible. thanks so much guys, i tried that http://www.hondacivicforum.com for a week, they are a bunch of ricers for the most part. I wont be going back there, its pretty quiet also unlike here, where i think people have a pager rigged for when there is a new post or something.

Here is exactly what I used:
Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter (CP199)
Dupli-Color Bumper Coating (FB105 Flex. Blk. Bumper)
I got it from pepboys.
Just read the back of the can and follow the directions

Bumper Coating??? you know they make a interior paint for carpet and vinyl. You can get it at NAPA or any auto store. It is called carpet and vinyl interior paint. It is made for just that. Also I too reccomend that you take all the panels you paint, out of the car.

I remember someone asking about this before and the way they fixed the white trim problem was to take a propane torch and gently warm the surface of the trim.
They had before and after pictures and it looked really nice.

That sounds risky......
I took acetone to mine and it restored them to an OEM finish, but not very dark......
I'd suggest doin a wipe down with acetone and then paint with that Krylon fusion stuff rexErin was talkin about
