Default Valves?

Yes, I know this is n00bish of me, but I did search first and couldn't find a direct answer.

When I stand on the gas, right before VTEC engages, I hear this tapping noise that sounds like it's coming from the head. Then it engages and I can't hear it anymore. What do you think?
