Occationaly the transmission mis-downshifts from 4th to 3rd or second. Acts as if I have low ATF but it is full. When I slow down from 40 MPH to 20MPH then accelerate the engine rev.s and then shifts into gear usually second. I was going to change the trans filter but it looks like it only has an internal screen... I changed the ATF and still the same problem.
Any suggestions?

How often was the atf changed in that tranny? If the tranny fluid isnt changed at the proper intervals, the atf could get burned(it turns really dark, almost black).If thats the case, ur better off just leaving the old fluid in the tranny because of all the clutch particles that are suspended in it. If u change the atf after it has gotten burnt, ur tranny will slip and all kinda **** will happen. The only thing i can think of is, go grab a huge bottle of lucas transmission fix and pour the whole thing in there. But, if it has been changed regularly, it might be something electronic.

 

Thanks for the input. The ATF was changed a number of times over the life of the vehicle. The fluid never looked or smelled burnt. I am woundering it there is some speed sensor that is out of spec. I have not been able to locate one. I have checked the vacuum sensors and they seem fine...???
