That gasket it meant to crush a bit. If it's tightened down hard enough, it will work. But If I were you I'd go to a muffler shop and get a 6 inch peice of tubing made with the proper flare for the donut. If you bring the donut and specify the size of piping they can make you one for like 30$. They made on for me, welded it onto a high flow cat and presto, had myself a new cat/flange. You can also get a flange to go ontop of the pipin, so you can bolt everything down, but don't get it welded there, that's where they get you with the price.

It's hard to explain, but I hope you get what I'm saying.
