Default hey guys, new here and to cars. Could use some help :)

Hey guys, first off I would like to say I'm just now getting into cars as of about a month ago. (and that my car needs to be washed haha)

Set you up with a little introduction:

I have a 95 Accord EX:

I have been thinking for awhile to start getting into cars, modding, rebuilding etc, so I thought I would try my hand at a few simple bolt-ons for some experience in working under the hood.

So far I'm looking at:

AEM Short Ram Intake
Magnaflow Cat-Back System
ZR Preformence header

Total it's looking at about $600 or so. Little more.

Someone told me about, "Don't be so quick to throw on an intake... some make the car run lean because the MAF sensor isn't recalibrated to the new intake and airflow." but I don't really understand how I could fix that, or how I would make sure that wouldn't happen.

Anyway, I am looking forward to learning more from the forums, and look forward to eventually be able to help people :D

Whoever said that about cold air intakes, either is A) never had one B) Put it on wrong

ive installed CAI's on plenty of cars, and not one has had anyproblems

now maybe if you replaced your MAF sensor, and your car started to run like ****, then you would need different fuel injectors

if you wanna save money on intake , just go ebay for the tubing and then get a K&N filter to replace the filter ebay will give you..

if u get a AEM your just paying for the name (and i belive AEM intakes go for over 100 bucks correct?). Everyone will say intake piping, is piping no matter what.. its all about the filter and K&N is great.

however if your still skeptical of what i say you can go AEM its your money, im just trying to help out.

also you can use this

WOW!

Thanks for the advice man.

Looks like I can get intake piping for about $13 on ebay motors, awesome

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

found these for filters:

around $50 each or so I save about $20.
http://www.knfilters.com/search/univcone.aspx

I can definately save more by looking around.

Only problem I see that could happen is that if I buy a K&N filter, will a 94-97 filter fit my ebay piping? It matches up by year right?

I believe for the Accord you're looking at a 2.5 inch opening at the end of the tube where you fit the filter on.

since youre new to cars, let me give you a little advice. even though companys say you will get "10-15 hp increase" from their intake or exhaust or whatever, you will most likely gain nothing except some decibles with all of these parts you are looking at.

im not saying you shouldnt do it, because there is some value in learning how to put parts on your car yourself. just want you to be informed

Since I'm not much further than yourself down the 'mods' road, my advice to you will be: start reading all over the forums first...whatever you like: turboing, drops etc. Get an idea of what you want to do to your car - is it casual modding or waay out of this world. Then start with the suspension and little appearance mods IMO.
Get a strut bar for the front and maybe some springs. That's what I did/will do.
It works for me and I am ona TIGHT budget.
Good luck!

Hmmmm If you are excited about learning about cars and forums then I would have to suggest that you read the forum rules thoroughly.
