Cheap, Forged, Light. Pick 2. I think that's how it goes. For me, I'll take the cheap ones. They're pretty light. When I had the tires mounted, the dude called all of his buddies over to feel how light the Rota's were. Now I've never had the Spoons in my hand, but if it's only say 5 lbs total I'd spend my money on 2 or 3 sets of the Rota's.

1 is forged the other is cast. i dont think the weight is really the issue its how the rim ends up when it hits a nasty pot hole....
1 will bend and then crack over time, wheas the other will just crack with the slightest bend
i personally have 16" rega's stripped then anodized black. if that isnt a fraud in the sense of the word ive had them stored away and sitting in my garage for the last two years. lol ............being lazy truely gets you nowhere

All wheels should be concidered a disposable item. Spending big bucks on things that might make it into the trash one day is silly...
I have had the Rotas SS for 4 years and they have held up exceptionally well, both track and street- NYC streets!
To the OP, I have had many many many people ask me if they were spoons. I just tell them yes and walk away laughing. not many people know or will ever know.
Cheap rims is where it's at.

True dat. Only the "Supa-Dupa JDM Masta" will ever know the diff.
People mistake my Rotas for Spoons all the time. Only a few people have caught on when I call em "Spooms."

all though this isn't the place to post this, i understand where you're coming from about wanting the SW388s, don't listen to the haters and keep searching. some people have had Rotas last for ever and i on the other hand hit one construction "tabletop" and split a stupid Rota straight in half... i'll never buy the garbage again, ever. others have their own opinions
My suggestion is to find someone who deals with shops in Japan, I know there are SW388s and Regamaster EVOs regularly floating around on Yahoo JPN auctions.

Would you have rather hit the same 'tabletop' with a genuine Sw388/Regamaster

A quick google search you can probably find some. There are a few sets of white Regamaster Evo's for the ITR on MemoryFab.com. They are used but they look nice.

Post a wanted ad and just bump it all the time so people will see it. It took me forever to find my SW388's. It was even harder to get the 5 lug 15's, b/c they're not as common as the 16's. Anyway, patience paid off. People may not have ads up for them, but they'll see your thread and pm you out of interest. Sometimes they're laying around, or they need the cash.
That's how I got mine. The guy had them pristine, just sitting in his garage.

15' rota slipstream is around 12lbs, 15' SW388/regmaster EVO is around 3.88kg/8.6lbs
that's not big deal for street use, but for track/autox is different story
also...most important is the BLING factor yo!
haha

My 16x7 Spoon wheels weigh less than 12 pounds each. That's pretty damned light.
The once very popular 15x6.5 Spoon wheels weigh about 8.5 pounds each.
The weight savings is a lot more than 1 pound per wheel, and the strength of these wheels cannot be discounted if you are going to be racing the vehicle or track driving it and bouncing over gaters all day long.
The biggest problem I can think of with wanting the Old Guard Spoon wheels in 15" is that you cannot put the best tyre widths on them. 205-50-15, sure. 225-45-15...that's a little iffy, I think.
The 16x7 are still in the running as a very good overall choice, IMHO, especially since companies seem determined to continue to make good compounds in 215-45-16. The best R comps can be found in 225-50-16, but you might have to make some minor chassis adjustments.

LOL.... My 16x7 Spoons are laying around.
I can't afford 16" R comps so the ITR stays on the 15x7 SSR Type C.
One of these days I'll clean up the Spoons and sell them.

100% absolutly, you must not understand the difference between cast and forged aluminum?? i've ran over alot more serious stuff on the road with my TE37s... not so much as a ding. bottom line is you pay for what you get, PERIOD.
