Splat's Expo 6 thread
No pictures yet, I've been lazy since I got back, and now the camera battery is dead
By the numbers:
Miles traveled: 2,094
MPG for trip: 27.2 indicated
Average speed: 57 mph (was 59 mph until I got caught in traffic 15 miles from home)
ITR Expos attended: 5
I left my pad at 9:15 Saturday morning, picked up co-pilot/navigator Willard in CLT and then we made tracks northwest. First day's drive was non-eventful - AC and cruise is nicey nice. A stop or two later we were in Louisville, KY, in the middle of a huge thunderstorm. Craig and the Daves met us there late-nite, then we sacked out for a bit and hit the road at ten or so Sunday morning with Young joining the caravan.
Sunday's drive was pretty fun - we were on some serious back roads most of the day. Finally got to the track midafternoon and set up camp with Bbasso, Edwin and some other cats. My $30 WTDR Expo tent was trashed, so I had to get a new one at Wally World when Will and I went out to resupply.
Stopped by the hotel that evening to register, and saw many familiar faces, and at least one tall-*** honkay. Hung out there for a bit, and then it was back to the track for beverages, shenanigans and sleep.
Monday was a blast, Dave B calling me out at 10am with a beer in hand, seeing a bunch more familiar faces, and just hanging around watching the action. Wandered the paddock a few times to take photos and talk to folks. Caught a ride with Junior for the parade laps, good times! Tons of CW there this year. Then it was out to the hotel for the banquet (thanks for the loan of your shower, Jon!!). The raffle impresses me more and more every year - so many great prizes! I was more than a couple of beers deep by then, so the late-nite part is kind of a blur
I was happy to get to watch a bit of the Canes game with Ryan, and then head out to the parking lot to raise a bit of hell.
Slept in late on Tuesday, then started packing up to head home. Willard and I made a couple of wanders to talk to folks and say our goodbyes, then headed out about 2pm. Another minor detour (my fault this time) had us heading towards Chicago instead of east, so Will pulled out the atlas and got us headed towards Lexington, KY for a stopover. Made tracks the next morning, and I dropped my co-pilot off in Greensboro a little before 4pm. Got to Raleigh ok, but the last 15 miles took me over an hour and a half - Alberto dumped almost eight inches of rain on Raleigh, and several of the roads leading to Southern Wake County were flooded out
Got home in time to relax for a bit, then head over to a pal's house for Game 5.
Summary - My fifth Expo was just as much fun as the rest. It was great to see a bunch of folks I only see at Expos, and very nice to meet some new people. I'm not going to list out names in case I forget someone, but I had a blast!
Thanks to the organizers, staff and sponsors who make this such a great event every year. I've been coming even though I sold my car right after Expo 2, and have never felt unwelcome at any of the events. We've got a great community, and it's fun to see how things evolve as new folks buy these cars and get involved.

Er, sorry about that. I only recall shooting roman candles at Aquafina's car. Sorry if we were a bit much that night.

err yeah..
I'll apologize too.. although I can't remember who was shooting them at your car. I think I shot some at Chris T's car but I'm not even sure about that.
/me was drinking a little...
I need to take a look at my numbers from the trip and post them up.. all I know right now was the mileage.. about 3,050 including the bit of a drive before I reset the trip on the way to orlando, 3015.5 on the trip b (reset after getting some gas about 35 miles from my place).

Sunday night: Smoke bombing "your own" tent.
I hope you threw that nasty thing away.

Yep, Willard stuffed it in a trash can as we packed up. Wish we could have shot more roman candles at it, sounds like the track folks weren't too happy with us about then (Rob's "toy")
