88 crx wierd idle problem
ok this is an odd one for ya. my b16 will not idle consistant. one minute it will fluctuate then it will be fine then it will act up again. idle jumps from 900 to 400 then 700 to 500. but will never stay comsistant. i have changed the vaccum lines new brake booster new ect. new o2 sensors but still no go. the idle also changes with the a/f gauge. rich idle fine back and forth idle up and down. i also changed the eacv adjusted the tps to .5 like the manual said but to no avail. now here is the odd part i unplug the alternater and it runs fine no problems except the it doesnt charge no big shocker though. so is this the computer or something else my alternater that came with the motor was bad so i put in a 90 teg alternater is that it or something else. open to all suggestions thanks
the 90 teg alternator shouldnt be the problem, i think your stability when unplugging the alternator has more to do with the car going into failsafe. have you tried cleaning the throttle body? what about replacing the IACV? Also, when cold starting, does the car miss ever?
cleaned the tb alittle while ago didnt do anything but it was really dirty. also the iacv the piece on the back of the intake manifold tryed one from a integra didnt change anything. so i cleaned mine and it still does it. what do u mean miss when cold starting. the car fires up fine everytime. also something i noticed today was when the idle goes up and down the fuel pressure gauge mores just slightly but i just figured that to be vaccum change. man this thing is starting to bug me i put the b16 in in sept and still not idling right. im going to try to borrow a computer tomorrow to see what that does. but till then suggestions are very appreciated thanks
hey, mines doing it too. from 900 to 1100. over and over. tried 3 different iacv's too. every now and then code 14 pops. maybe it has something to do with not having a ELD. isnt that somehow wired up to the altenator? just a guess, what intake manifold are you running?
i tryed unplugging the eld in the fuse box and still the same. im running the stock intake mani. also changed the pcv . so im confused. i put a vac gauge to it today and it wont stay stable it idles fine at 20 then with the lights on it goes from 19 to 20. then with the lights off it goes from 20 to 21. so is it supposed to do that. cause this is really pissing me off. it has been 8 months since the thing idled right. so please help.. thanks

Check the "non Computer controlled idle. To do this warm the car up to normal operating temp. Then disconnect the idle contol solinoid (on the back of the intake manifold. it should be idling at 700-750 rpm. If it is not, check that the throttle cable has sufficient free travel, next set the manula stop a (7-8mm nut on an allen screw on the head side of the throttle body. If the idle is set too high it will "hunt" as you describe. At least that is what worked for me.
