you can do it in about 3 days if you take your time but in a rush probably two because you have to let it dry but I used about 3 cans of primer and Im going to use 4 cans of paint and its called dupli-color you can get it at auto zone or any place like that it cost me $22 for 4 cans of paint and some 1000 grit sand paper but it came out pretty good so look to spend about 50

i have to say it doesnt look bad..
just make sure you spray alot of clear...if it was me i would get the flat clear too, i dont think a really shiny engine bay would look that good.

3 can of primer?4 cans of paint? theres no need to used that much paint..all you need is 1 can of primer/sealer and maybe maybe 2 cans of paint...3 days?yeah right..if it took you 3 days to do that next time dont be lazy and tape everything up take it off...do it the right way the first time.
yea looks really good, i did the same thing with my rex a couple weeks ago... check it out in my sig... my bay used to look exactly like yours haha, but mine was red and black/green/purple/blue and yellow over spray my car had about 8 previous owners haha
expletive all you haters I did what i did to my car...and I think it was the right way just because I didnt take everything off dont mean I didnt do it the right way and NaIIawah what else is there to mask??? all i have to do is put one more coat on then im puttin clear coat on and I havent figured out what color Im painting the car and I will take all the masking stuff off once I get done with it will be more pics by monday but this is the paint I used and thanks for every ones opinons not mad just wondering why every one thinks they could have done better when I only had 60 dollars to paint the engine bay with 60 dollars thats it and plus Im only 16 so it was an experience for me

you could of rented a gun and compressor taped it all off, degreased and got half a pint of paint for 60 bucks
i only spent 80 bucks but i bought a full gallon of sealer for later use
But it does look good i couldnt even tell it was rattle, that other idiot probably couldn't either until he read what you said... I one time rattle canned the whole interior of my car it turned out pretty good

well I didnt just buy paint I but some different kinds of sand papaer so yea I have some pics I took to day after it dried I might wait till tonight to put another coat on
btw i believe you are dropping a b16 into your rex? you should beat in where the alternator fits before you painted it,, your going to have beat that in whether you like it or not
on the driver side, you know where the alternator sits right? just beat in where the alternator normally sits, beat it in about a 1/2" deep and 2"in diameter -------> http://www.crxresource.org/mod...d=134 --------> check this site it has a full swap instruction

You should have removed the fenders and pulled the headlamps out .I could that same job with $60-$100 bucks. Heres how I do them and how the shops Ive worked and work at do it. Pull fenders off or un bolt them and pull them to the side.
1.Wax and Grease the engine bay
2.Red scotch the engine bay(no need to sand it with paper unless there are chiped areas)
3.Wrap tin foil around wires and hoses etc
4.You can d/a the top of the core support if you want to. Use 280 or 320 grit(your choice) Really you only need to red scuff it and wax and grease it.
5. Put one coat of sealer on...no need for primer really because theres no mud work on it is there? and Im sure theres not enough bare metal exposed and its already painted.
6. Base coat it(1 pint should be enough to do the engine bay.
7.Clear coat one nice coat or two coats if you prefer
That my friend is how you "cut in" a engine bay..Doing it this way should not cost any more than a $120. Figure you can get a red 3m scuff for almost nothing. Paint..1 pint is roughly $60...Sealer is cheap too. Clear maybe $50.
(I might have mis spelled a lot or missed a step or two but im pretty sure its right...im on sleeping pills right now.

1.) I did clean engine bay scrubbed it with de greaser
2.) sanding did fine for me
3.) why tin foil tape worked fine
4.) put it on there so the paint would stick better so when I sand the primer
5.) I did it the way I did it with spray can and came out fine so quit complaining
6.) my money I did what I did
why remove fenders and head lights more work thats just dumb I said engine bay not frame IM PAINTING THE ENGINE BAY NOT FRAME
