Need help with electric vss...in a CRX
I have installed a 94 GSR cluster into my 91 si. Everything works except for the speedo. I have a wire going to pin B16 on the ecu, then split to the orange wire on the larger plug on teh cluster. I have the vss to a switched power wire off of the cluster which is gettign 12.5V. When the ignition is on, the signal wire is getting ~11.5V. I have tried every combination on my VSS to get it to work. nothing has worked. I finally got reliable wire diagrams of the 91 crx si and the 94 gsr (big thanks to that guy who faxed them to me(forgot your SN and you arent in my history anymore-sorry)). and it says the wires on the plug are S + -... The S and - could be swapped, but I cant tell from the diagrams. I have tried both ways.
I have pretty much given up on trying to get it working. I'm assuming teh vss is fried. Is it possible to short these out? What VSS should I use for this swap? I have a B series transmission. Not sure if d and b series vss are interchangable or not. If I have shorted it out, how should I go about getting it to work when I buy a replacement?
TIA!!

Never heard a VSS shorting out. assuming you have all the wires correct can you borrow another VSS from a friend to test ? also any VSS from 92 and up will work
I would start by checking the output of the vss right at the sensor itself maybe, then start tracing it back to the dash. I don't know if there is a circuit that modifies the signal between the vss, the speedo, and the ecu, there is on my weird *** car, but you should be able to tell from the factory service manuals. I know that the output of the vss itself should be a o-12v square wave. On my stupid car, I had to modify the signal from the cruise control input and send that to the ecu to get my ecu to work properly, you won't have to put that much effort into fixing your setup, if that makes you feel better..
another thing, do you have the code for the vss from the ecu? If you don't, then that should tell you a little more about where the problem is. Also, if you don't have the code, then that spares you having to jack the car up and run it in gear with a voltmeter connected to the vss..

I do have a cel, but not for the vss. its for my iacv. Ever since I put the LS ecu in, I have had that cel. I'm changing out my driver side axle and rear brakes tomorrow. I'll mess with it some more then...
EDIT: you dont have to have a obd1 ecu to get the speedo to work properly do you? It didnt mention anything about this in the (gauge)swap articles..
