fitting camshafts and discovered a knick in top of journal what to do?
ok so i was fitting my crower stage 2 camshafts when i discovered the 4th cam journal has a ever so slight knick on the top lefthand corner of it.... the journal is completely straight on both sides, however at the top left corner there is a small knick that wont let the journal sit flush... if you move the camshaft to the right ''over'' the knick it sits perfectly flush... but it offsets the rocker arm placement of the camshaft.... could it be filed straight or machined? or is the head garbage or?
i tried to take picutres but my camera cant catch a good angle and good lighting to actually see the knick.... its very small, all of the journals seat the camshaft perfect, its just that particular journal has a very small knick that wont let the camshaft seat right
If the nick is as small as it sounds like you are describing then you should be able to clean it up with some emory paper and everything should be fine.
i got it cleaned up, yay for me lol god that worried me.... i have a dremmel grinder and a buffer adbrasive high grit ball.... and i slightly touched the spot and it cleaned it up peerfect now the camshafts sits perfect...
my next question is my head has normal journal wear towards the cam gear journal... i have seen many of heads with this same type of wear... was wondering if it should be micropolished or line honed.... or both?
