Default Going from EG to EF (should i do it)

I have a 92 DX hatch, pretty clean, its got the d15b7 in it, so it's not all that great. I picked up a JRSC for SOHC Dseries for pretty cheap, and was gonna use it on the d15b7. I was looking into trading my EG for a CRX si or a EF Civic si because they have D16a6's and from what i hear the JRSC puts out better power on the a6's than my b7. My question is, for daily driving, how happy are you guys with your EF's and how would u compare them to an EG? My goal for my car is pretty simple. Just for daily driving, and occasional autox. How do the handling characteristics differ between the 2 cars? some people said the CRX is twitchy and a little harder to drive, so i wanted to get the people who actually own CRX si's and EF civic si's opinion. thanks.

Having owned a couple CRXs and a 94 VX, I have to say the EG is a more comfortable daily driver. The handling of the EF is much better than the EG.
EF's are great though and I prefer them over EG. It just really depends on what you want and how highly you weigh things. I take my EF over the EG because it's more fun to drive.

I love my crx but I think for a DD the eg could be a little nicer...has some nicer features...why not just swap in a D16

I personally love my CRX as a daily if you don't mind the older car feel. I've driven a couple EG's and I say there's a noticable difference in handling and how quickly the car picks up when you compare the two. My CRX feels more nimble and quicker but I like the power steering in the EG's for daily driving. I dunno. Almost 50/50, but I love my EF.

hows cargo space in the EF CRX/CIVIC compared to the EG? the EG does have a newer feel as far as looks go, i'd agree, however my EG is a dx that came with no options but a/c. so i don't have power steering. how is the manual rack in the EF? i'd imagine its not as heavy as the EG since they are lighter cars. also if im not mistaken the EF si's came with a sunroof and disc brakes all around right?

Honestly, it's not bad at all. I acty=ually prefer it now after driving it a while due to the improved road feel!

I like non-PS If it's too tough, maybe you can get an aftermarket steering rack to change the ratio and make it easier

With Honda's power steering system, you lose alot of the feel of the road. Kind of like an automatic tranny make you lose control of the engine, PS makes you lose control of the road. You can't "feel" what's happening cause the PS is sucking it all up!

I like the EG better than the EF hatch but I like a CRX the best...well before I had a kid. If your gonna b swap ever I think the CRX Si is the best as its the lightest. In your situation Id keep a EG coupe or hatch over a EF hatch in a heart beat. My dd is a 94 coupe.

yea..i pretty much dropped the hatch, unless i can come accross a super clean one. but really leaning towards trading for a crx si with a sunroof and a/c..i was curious about crx's cargo space. how much can u fit in the back of those things?

The CRX can fit a lot in the back more than a EF or EG hatch when the back seats are not folded down. You could fit a 20"inch tv in one (if you went to the store and got one in the box) You can fit groceries for a family of 3. I think I fit two laundry baskets in mine. It has enough space for a single guy or a couple to fit laundry or gorceies in.

i was going to swap my ef for an eg but there are alot of eg's out there and not alot of nice ef's. Eg's are great, lots of pluses but owning an ef is great it is the old school man and theres no school like the old school!!! hit up my hommie streetwerkz he has a badass crx si with a d16a6 supercharged. The **** is fast honestly he sold me on the supercharger deal. In my opinion i would get an ef just out of love and supercharge that ****.

keep us posted about your build im interested in what your planing on doing.

Actually, the HF is the lightest crx, but the si interior is definately the best. I just sold my crx and bought an 06 si. I will admit, I miss my rex and I know that I will get another one down the road.

i had a 92 cx for about a year. loved it. handles great and was very good on gas... then i drove a EF hatch and was hooked they handle better i think overall the ef is a better car. i dont mind the EF old car feel. EG arent new either but when it comes to a DD an EF is great, light, good on gas. the only problem i see with EF are that they are older cars and they are gunna be harder to find without rust. i say get an EF

I have a 90 hatch Si and a 93 hatch DX. I don't agree that the EF's handle better. There are just way too many variables. Are you going to compare stock to stock? That's only useful if you're going to keep both stock. Most EFs start off lighter than the EGs, but not the case with my Si. It's just a matter of how much you are going to modify the car. And in that case, the EG wins slightly because there is more aftermarket support for it and it's slightly easier to work on. You can swap anything over from the Integra. I tried replacing the fuel pump strainer on the Si, no dice. I'm not going to drop the whole tank! On the EG I put a GSR full pump and a new fuel pump strainer in less than 30 minutes. EGs have more swap options available and swaps are much easier. The dealerships have more EG parts still left. So I don't plan on doing much to my 90 Si, but my 93 DX on the other hand has had every single thing on the car modified or replaced with new OEM.

I'm starting to find a lot of EGs in the junkyards now so there isn't really much in favor for the EFs as far as ease of finding cheap parts.

yeah the aftermarket support for the eg is alot better then for the ef's. It is hard to say but i come back to this again it is all about what you want to do with your car and what makes you happy the ef's might be a bitch to swap thats why im just going to supercharge the single cam that and many other reasons but you got to make your self happy the car is yours and yours only.

again its all about the ef love
