Default Radiator fan kick's on and off!!!!!

My fan has failed to engage twice in a 2 week period! Whenever i have driven my teg for a long period of time and then i idle my fan does not come on. My fan does come on any other time, just once this week and once last week. I have jumped my fan directly to my battery and fan does come on and i do have coolant flow so i don't believe it's my thermostat. Could it be my fan relay or fan switch or i'm i going to have to replace both. Is there a way to test my relay since that's the easiest thing to replace.

It's failed to engage then the car over-heated?

Your fan will only turn on when the engine is hot enough to need it. Then it turns off when it cools down some. If you're having overheating problems, perhaps you do have some fan problem, but if you're not overheating, that's normal operation.

What happens when you jump the thermo switch with a paper clip? Will that make the fan run?
