I posted this in FI but got no replies, so i thought i would try it here.
right know i am mainly trying to get the motor built to handle my power goals. I want to build the motor to handle 250-300 whp. Here are the parts i plan on using......
Bottem End
JE Pistons 9:5.1
Eagle Rods
ARP head Studs
ARP Main Bolts
ARP Rod Bolts
Balanced & Mircopolished Crank
All OEM Bearings and Gaskets
Head
Can i get away with a stock head? Just have it reconditioned? or should i build it?
PnP, valves, cam, Ect.?
What kind of head gasket should i go with?
What do you all recommend i do with the head?

The bottom end sounds great but you might have trouble with a stock a6 head flowing enough for 300hp. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it's been done but I assume you'd have to build it up, get an aggressive cam.....
Stock z6 head would probably get you there.
OEM headgasket.
It'll be a blast no matter what. t3 turbo?

im sorry but je pistons are garbage,,yeah they'll handle the power you want but i would neve get je or srp,, i would get wiseco..Dont need the arp main bolts,,but thats your call..
For the head it really depends on your budget..i would atleast do some mild porting though and port match everything..

I am somewhat building the same setup. I am going with 9.1:1 compression pistons though. I just got a very cheap Delta cam. Delta cams are cheap regrinds that work well. If i were you i would look into that. I'll find the site and post it at a later time. What turbo are you going with?
The only advantage to the Z6 head is the price and availability of aftermarket parts. VTEC sucks for tuning on boost.
The A6 and sohc ZC(same engine better cam) are boost lovers when built right.
The zc head is amazing stock with boost. Just add the y7 intake manny for a better flow and port match it for a killer cheap setup.

Lol. It takes so little more to tune it with dual maps. X-off vtec & tune, turn on/down vtec & tune. Viola, you just completed the most amazing feat on earth.
Honestly, people are always saying d-heads suck, a6 this is better than z6 that, etc etc. Until they can come up with side-by-side flow numbers and better dyno numbers, I'm sticking to the facts - that vtec on the intake side is still better than non-vtec. But that's subject for a different thread.
For parts, I'd get a bigger cam with a super60 T3 (don't confuse with a regular 60trim T3), or a smaller t3/t04e 50trim with a .48ar exhaust. You may even consider a t3/t04b, specifically a s-trim with stage1 exhaust. My stock block z6 spools it before 4k & pulls hard to redline. I'd suggest reconditioning the head though, as its the oldest of the civic d-series engines. No sense in building a block, only to have it blow up due to oil leaking from the valves.

well i havent picked a turbo yet, i have been wanting to get my motor built to handle my power goals, there was a guy on here that hit like 254whp and 276tq on a stock a6 head, all he had was pistons and rods. If i can get some #'s like that i will be happy, so i think im just gonna keep my head stock, what OEM parts should i buy for the head? like valves, guides, ect?
ok You gotta think of your budget and what you can buy with your available cash flow. There are many different tuning options. Just because you might put down a good number doesn't nesserily mean that dudes car is fast. Its all about the combination. If you have an a6 complete set up and the budget is low don't go and by the biggest turbo you can find because its all about having an efficient setup. Any way stock a6 good for boost change head gasket to one from a z6 and go to arp rod bolts If its already apart. Buy a air fuel ratio gage and a fmu at an 8:1 ratio if moneys tight. If you got more doe Z6 head lightened flywheel and Underdrives. Split Second Auxilary Injector Controller and plum two additional injectors down stream from the throttle body 450cc dsm injectors. Or you can run 4 450 cc dsm injectors and turbo-edit the existing ecu. for boost. Ps both setups are fairly well but tuning is still nessesary for desire hp gains.
