Default REFEREED!!! Please guys , thread for refereed stories and solutions.

my car got routined stopped in ontario, ca (capital of illegal street racing). my hood was popped open and taken snapshots of. i have a almost fully jdm ef9 and i dont want to junk it but its refereed. the only thing different is a soch zc and an aem intake with caarb sticker. my car is an SI so it has to be a 1.6 (d16a6) but its the same bore. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO DO. Do i need to find a d16a6 to put that one in there? my car is dropped, whats the legal drop in cali. or can anyone help me find a d16a6 that i can build myself (bareblock).

P.S. please post your stories and keep this thread alive. i havent seened this topic arise at all. thank you for your support

what the hell, going to jail because you're driving without a licensed, what are you worried about your car for? you wont need it when you're in the showers.

24TEN----thank you for your pm's,,,
i searched all of honda-tech and there's no thread about refereed cars.

according to '24TEN' a car has to be no less than 22 inches from the center of the headlight to the floors, also the reinforcement of the bumper might be a problem it its jdm or if it has been swapped. 'SOHC ZC motors are a direct replacement for the stock motors. ALL SOHC ZC are 100%'

if anyone can put any other info for future reference it will be gladly appreciated for all the other unfortunate ppl.

search, I found that you don't need to ref a sohc zc since it is basically an a6. You should really talk to the ref though. Call this number to get local refs 1800-622-7733.

the car will have some sort of BAR label or sticker in the engine bay or door jam if it has been reffed and passed.

'I saw your post about getting busted with your motor.
It's a little confusing the way you worded it. When I read that you car was "refereed", I thought you meant that you already got your motor passed by the referee and got your BAR sticker. Saying that you are being sent to the referee would be more clear. I know I'm being nit-picky. . but if it confused me, chances are that it confused others as well.
As far as the soch zc goes, from what I've heard/read, you cannot pass that motor in a USDM car. Yeah, it's "basically" a d16a6 motor, but there were no motors in usdm cars that say "ZC" on them, and the ref should not pass it.

I see that you already picked up an a6. Just make sure you have a stock, usdm ecu in there, and all the smog related equipment. All the misc. jdm stuff on the outside should make no difference to the ref.

If you did get a ticket for being too low or other stuff, you'll have to clear that stuff up at the police station, not the ref.

Good luck man!'

i quoted this guy that sent me a PM. it should clear things up.
does having the bar code lower the value of the car, do i have to send it to the smog only place every smog time, what the hell

btw i didnt post his name cus i dont know if he wanted to post anonymous.

Ok, you need to talk to your local Referee, because they all will allow slightly different things.

For example, some referees won't pass first-gen JDM B16A blocks, since there was no similar motor in the USA until the Del Sol got it. However, my local referee allows these, as long as they are wired up obd1 and have everything from the Del Sol present, since he knows the longblocks are essentially the same.

As for the height of the car, and the exterior mods, the referee shouldn't be concerned with that. The only reason he would care is if he can't get your car onto the smog machine. They test emissions compliance, not body/exterior modifications.

As for the bar code and the value of the car.. If anything, it would RAISE the value of the car, since the car will appear to have been ref'd nomatter what motor is in there. For example, a car with a BAR sticker stating that it has a 95 Acura Integra engine won't attract much attention from a regular smog shop if you have a B16 in the bay, or something like that. The sticker carries quite a bit of power at smog shops.

If you get a sticker, it'll look liek this:

and no, you shouldnt have to send it to a test only place every time. The sticker isnt just for people who got their hoods popped. It's a sticker showing police and smog shops that the swap was done properly and up to California's codes. I've never had my hood popped, but I got the sticker by choice so that I will have something to show the Cops in the event that they do want to pop my hood. I also got it so that I can go pay the regular $39 for a smog, instead of finding someone to "overlook" the fact that I have a B18 motor in my CRX and take a few hundred of my $$.
