Default Discussion: Brake upgrade's

Discussion: Brake rotor's

Ok, so I just recently picked up my S2K, and I notice the brakes are getting low.
So its time to replace the pads, but I going to put some Ceramic pads,
but I believe those will eat up the stock rotors pretty quickly, wouldn’t it?

So I figured while I am at it, let’s upgrad!

I figured ill do the:

DBA 4000 series Slotted/drilled-Vented (front)
DBA 4000 series Slotted-solid (rear)
Hawk Pads
SS Lines
And flush the brake fluid and replace with better quality stuff.

_________________________________________________
So here is the discussion part

What do you guys think of that setup?
Or what would you recommend.

I don’t want to do a full big brake swap, just Factory replacement stuff

What do most people upgrade there brakes to, or do you guys just use Factory stuff ?

Ceramic pads will not eat up stock rotors. They actually work pretty well with them. If you have enough left on them, just get the resurfaced/cut. SS lines and a brake fluid change will be good also.

Ceramic pads came stock on hte 00-03 S2ks. They switched to metallic pads starting in 2004. I have great stopping ability in my 04, but I do have tons more brake dust than I see on earlier models.

On stock rotors and pads just some SS lines and Motul or ATE brake fluid is a generous upgrade.

SS lines, upgraded pads, and fluids. Slotted rotors are a slight bit of improvement, but not really in braking force, just heat capacity and dissipation.

I use Hawk HPS, Motul RBF600, Russell SS lines.

i have ceramics for 25k miles so far no damage to the rotor and the pads still have some good meat left on them

hmm.....

Yea, seriously i dont plan on doing any heavy braking. so i don’t think such a big upgrade is needed.

I think some good pads, lines, fluid is more then enough.
But i would have liked how the slotted/drilled would of looked.

I can get the rotors for pretty dam cheap, so maybe ill still get them.
It wouldn’t hurt, i guess..

i will get a finale price on every thing, and if its more then my budget allows me for, then ill just do the simple stuff

Stick with OEM rotors and make a duct if you are worried about heat dissipation

Sadly but I think the urge for wanting the Slotted/drill
Is more for visual appearance then Performance.

i usually don’t care for such things.. But in this case i do

but i will take a look at the condtion of my stock rotors, if i find any flaws.
Then i will replace then with the DBA's but if there 100% fine. ill keep them

I have a question along these lines alos. I just got some 4 piston Wilwoods, which rear rotors should I go with. I saw Brembo and Powerslot both have a slotted setup. I hear most buyers get them from Brembo and do what they will afterwards. I dont race the car all the time, occasional auto X and road for fun.

is the b force the same as the regular projet(u) pad? one of my friend had it and it's a total piece of junk.??

you might want to skip the SS line, unless you planning to race and replace them every year or every season. On the street it's not likely to get hot enough to feel any difference. plus people don't change the perfectly looking SS line even tho' it's a couple years oil, next thing you know, the telon/rubber inside is already cracked and BAM the line blew on you.

but if you must, get goodridge, they seems to have the best customer service and their kit fits without modificiation.(and dot approved unlike some of the Ebay stuff that probably come from a taiwanese factory that does homedepot bathroom hose in the day and super jdm racing hose at night)

project MU <----it's not a U

btw, project mu pads are pure and utter overpriced crap. Their lower level pads offer less co-eff. friction than OEM pads.

if u insist on getting rotors get slotted... but i for one say drilled is wack and more bling then anything...
slotted help a LIL bit with braking but thats under heavy condition.....

traditional rotors are more then good enough...

ask people who rae often and know a thing or too on suspension and they will tell you the same thing...

if u want to improve braking on a S Pads and SS lines is all u need...

believe me, the S braking system is by far well above what is needed....

Yea i decided not to go with the DBA's as they are a little more then what i expected to spend.

PowerSlot has Sloted Rotors that is about 20 bucks cheaper then the OEM's

Power Slot Rotors (F/R)
Hawk HPS pads
Motul RBF 600 Brake Fluid

Not sure what lines yet, but maybe Earl's

That should be more then enough.

Once again i remind you, i am dew for a brake change
Pads are low, rotors are damages

"More than enough" is an understatement. For your needs, a set of Civic brakes would be good enough(no offense). Even if you're only going for visual appeal, you'll want to do a bigger upgrade to make it look good. The stock rotor size looks way too small (for aesthetics).

Just for the archives im using Carbotech XP8 F/Stock R pads, OEM rotors all the way around, Goodridge stainless, and Motul RBF600.

looks like the GREEK letter μ, "mu" to me....

lol.

its typically used as the coefficient of friction for a material in the general F=μN force of friction formula.
