Default Flywheel Upgrade 12lbs or 8lbs?

I'm upgrading the flywheel on my H22 to a lighter weight. Which weight should I use if I wanted to street drive my car?

12 pounds or 8 pounds?

I do want great performance even though it means I have to put up with crap on a daily basis. What would be the consequences using a flywheel that is too light?

If you do a lot of stop and go/heavy city traffic, get the heavier one.. Other than that the 8lb one isn't bad at all to daily drive with

Well... I do plan to stop and go drive, but what I was worried about was that, someone told me that if I got the 8lb flywheel, whenever I let the RPM fall freely, you know like say rev up and let off the gas, that the motor would stall out. I don't wanna have to restart my car at every stop sign.

Plus, would it cause any major damages to other components of the car?

What would be the main downfall about getting the 8lb flywheel? Other than having to gas a little before leaving a red light.

I use to have the 8lb Fidanza in my H22 and I never had any problems with it... It was never a pain to drive nor did it ever stall.

I have a fidanza 8lbs and it works like a charm. I don't even need to rev high to start off (~1000-1500rpm). You just have to know how to drive your car. With the lighter flywheel, the engine revs up quicker, which makes it easy to rev match during downshifts. I don't understand how the motor would stall out if you rev up and let off the gas...who told you that?

Well, it was some mechanic who was perticularly against car modifications. Not so much against it, but just doesn't support it. But yeah, if all was fine, I guess I'll pick up the 8lb wheel. Thanks everyone.

The 8lb flywheel is very streetable the only difference I noticed was when I downshifted the car would take longer to slow down than it used to resulting in using the brake more for me.

isnt it supposed to be the other way around? like if you have the lighter flyheel the rpm raises and drops faster/quicker?

i think the heavier one has more momentum to keep it going compared to the lighter one

well, the rpms do raise and drop faster with a lighten flywheel, but when you engine brake since there's less stress on the engine, the car won't slow down as fast.

No, he's talking about when it's in gear. You're right though that the flywheel accellerates and decellerates faster when it's lighter. But yeah, when it's in gear, the heavier flywheel would slow down the car more because it uses more Kinetic energy.

Another question, I heard that ideally for drag racing, you want a 12lb and not an 8lb. Correct? Because, I don't think I have enough money for my Type-S project and I may have to switch down to a base model w/ LSD.

SH/Type-S motors are damn expensive!!!

i'll take an LSD tranny over an ATTS tranny any day...the 12lbs may be better for launching the car...however, for acceleration..you go through gears quicker with the 8lbs.

I would have to agree with above i guess its really how you like the feel of a 8lb and 12lb and whichever one you like better because your not going to really see a race one over one over the other

depending how far u plan on taking ur car, i'd suggest the 12lb one. 8lbs is a bit overvill, and for more HP, a heavier flywheel is important
