Default Gauge Cluster or Tach?

I got one of those 91 civic HBs that doesn't have the RPM gauge in it. Now I was just wondering which would be better for a GSR swap(possibly with type-r tranny) - an Autometer tach, or a new gauge cluster? I was thinkin a cluster that will have a higher top speed in it, but also the tach because its less work to install. Any suggestions?

depends on what you like man. i like the simple stock look in my car. so i would do what is nessisary for a cluster with a tach or maybe even a nicecluster from the new civic si. or the one of the 96-98 civic modles has one that revs to 9k but if you want the easy install go for the tach. just put my friends in for him from autozone easy as pie. took literaly 10 minutes

Alright but how long would it take to install a gauge cluster? And would it be hard?

depends on what you like i personally think tach's give you more attention then needed by cops and thieves. plus aint nothing better than a stock look get a si cluster there cheap or if your going bseries get a sir one but some wiring will be needed and a vss. the ukdm cluster read mph and jdm ones read kpm.

if you dont want to or havent messed with wires before i wouldent deal with it. it it depends on your skill level in the rewiring cars department. have you done anything with car wiring before? you would need the diagram from the book of the car you are doing the swap from and yours. i wouldent do it. i just finished some hard wiring in my car tho. im tired of it for now

So pretty much any tach with like 9000rpm would be good enough for a GSR? What about the top speed though?

yeah that should be good. if not perfect but i think it was 140 mph but dont hold it to me. just look the 97 civic si up on ebay and have a look at the cluster. i think its ok.

it would fit should be the same set-up as getting the 99 civic si cluster tight fit and a lot of wiring but it can be done.
