Default tire sizes for EF, and cars in general

OK Honda Heads, many of you have told me that 205/50R15 is the ideal tire/wheel combo for my EF, it offers the best shock absorption and handling, etc.

Accordingly, the Honda Challenge guys run this size..

So why is it that we keep seeing "track" cars with giant oversize wheels and tires? Take for instance, the RSX project car built by Buddy Club on the cover of this month's IMPORT TUNER. If the smaller wheels handle better, why are the large wheels featured on cars that seemed to be destined for track competition?

For mad tyte bling appeal. I always strive to get the smallest lightest wheel possible. What ever is just big enough to clear my brakes. I don't know how big the brakes are on RSXes, or if the mac struts interfer. I do know that RTR runs 17's on their RSXes. It could be due to series rules though.

Well HC guys can't run anything wider than a 7" rim, which is going to limit typically the diameter is 15" with the exception of HU and H1.

NASA CCR HC
a) Wheels replaced with any substitute subject to the following restrictions.
1) Any wheel diameter may be used.
2) The maximum wheel width or H2-H5 is seven (7) inches.
3) Any size wheel may be used in HU and H1
4) Wheels must be made of metal.

For the larger wheels I think as Bart said those are to accommodate the larger brakes that are used in that series. Also some people just use a larger wheel cause they want to. I prefer a 13"-15" for a CRX out on track. The majority of guys stay with the 15" there are occasionally 16" & 17" on certain cars.

Big wheels on crx's always look kind of weird to me. I think the car is to small to be putting 17's and whatnot on it, makes them look unbalanced or something. Like putting yao ming' shoes on verne troyer.

205s are the way to go the reason you see big wheels on some of the hc and other race cars is because of there brakes are so big that 15s want fit over them
