Default tube notchers

Hey guys I am looking for a tube notcher. Started doing some searching on ebay. This JD squared one looks pretty nice

How do these type of notchers work? And do they make decent cuts?

The JD2 one works well for low volume work.

I'm not doing real high volume yet, but it could happen, Just dont want to spend thousands on a real tube notcher. Thanks

you are really talking about two vastly different tools here.

one is for using with a hole saw. this can do some radical types of joints.

the other is basically for snipping off some metal.

alternatives are always the grinding wheel or...

if you have a chop saw, cut off the end of the tube at about 30° angles on two sides and touch up with the grinder or.....

if you have access to a decent sized mill, use a 1.5" end roughing bit like this one:
