Default B16A1 rev limiter problem

My friend has a 90 4dr civic that recently had a 1st gen b16 swapped in. a friend of his wired it up; the mpfi swap first, then wiring up vtec, knock sensor and yadda, yadda, yadda. Anyway, when he floors it, the rev limiter kicks in at 6k rpm. if he half throttles, he could make it to 7500 or so rpm. there are no engine codes and everything is hooked up, incl. the speed sensor cable. i'm pretty sure its a wiring problem but don't know what to check first. visually, the wires look fine and all soldered up.

do you guys have any idea what might be causing this. i tried to do a search and couldn't find anything. that, or i could just be a moron.

any help would be appreciated.

There must be a cel, make sure you are checking properly.

If infact there are NO CEL's, then youve got some troubleshooing to do.

yep. there isn't any right now. the first time we started it up, it had one code which was TPS. We changed that and now all is good but still, the rev limiter problem...

One possibility is that you have an ECU for an automatic.
It happened to my friend..

My ecu said MT=manual and his said AT=auto
look for the red circle around the middle of pic...

No, it's not cold. But, I don't think temperature should have any effect on where ur rev limiter kicks in... u should get that checked.

I.E, lower redline when cold since parts haven't reached something called OPERATING TEMPERATURE yet.

well... what I mean is that once a certain map is written to the ecu, it shouldn't change regardless of temperature. I dunno, maybe i'm wrong. u would think that OEM programmers would take temperature into consideration... at least to a certain point. even on a warm day, i let my car run for at least a min before i drive it, but that's just me.

will check tonight, but the ecu seems to run fine in my car.
