Default H22 with H23 tranny?

I need a new engine in my 94' si and I was thinking about getting an H22 motor and bolting onto my current H23 transmission to save me some money and have vtec......I was wondering what the pros and cons are of doing this and what the redline would be?.....and is this a bolt-up hybrid or does any fabrication needed to be done to use the H23 tranny with the H22 block?

it'll bolt right up... redline is all about the motor, not the transmission.. it's almost always worth it to buy a motor/tranny combo because you save money between buying them seperate, and you will have a tranny with roughly 30k miles on it and not the one you have currently with (i'm assumin) well over 100K on the clock..

If your H23 transmission is in good shape, go ahead and use it. Once you start making good power, you'll appreciate the longer gears (or if you make long highway trips)

actually i like my jdm tranny better than my h23. and on long trips, the fifth gear on the m2a4 is longer than the h23 tranny.

so you save gas with a h22 tranny.

yeah, I'll prolly just stick with my current tranny and get an Exedy organice clutch and 12lbs. flywheel, I dont have enough for the whole swap, and how hard is wiring for vtec, I have an idea but I need to know how much time to allow.......thanks

as for wiring vtec, it took me loger to pull the extra pins from a cut harness than it did to run the wires and solder them.. I drilled a tiny hole that allowed me to route the wires into the wheel well and then into the car where the wires for the door come out.. I couldn't contort my body enough to pull out the grommet where the wires go through the firewall..

the only issue with the h23 tranny is that you may not land in vtec after shifting from redline.

the 1st-2nd shift is the most problematic in this regards, the rest of the shifts might be ok.

Does anyone know the speeds of each gear. With a h22 motor and h23 or f22 trans?
roughly i think these are the speed with stock h22 trans
1st gear: 40-ish
2nd gear: 60-ish
3rd gear: 90-ish
4th gear: 114-ish
5th gear: 140-ish

I have that swap. The h22 engine with the h23 tranny. The engine head was fully built, lower end untouched. I think when I shift it drops to about 4600-4900 or so. So I guess it might fall out of vtec, but in my case I have a hondata so I can adjust vtec engagement. It runs hard as hell though!
