wet sand?
Use like...I beleive it's 1000grit for wetsand. Use a special water type cleaner and sand while keeping everything wet/clean, be sure not to go to far down and remove all the paint. Should only be done to remove orange peel and small surface scratches on paint before clearcoat.
I believe dish soap & water (distilled?) in a spray bottle is the way to go. Use it liberally & keep a very close eye on just how much paint your removing. I've only done it on models with enamle paints myself. I had a kit with 6 different grits and all I remember is the last one was 24k. Then you hit it with some wax to finish it off. Obviously you don't want to go that fine if your going to clear-coat over the top...
well im wet sanding my engine bay i got 220 grit "wetordry" from walmart so i use soap and water in a spray bottle and juss make sure the area i do is wet before I do it?? and keep it wet while your sanding??
dont use 220 unless you plan on painting it. dont wet sand it period if your trying to make it look new. IMO the paint in the bay is not in good condition. do a wire tuck and repaint the whole bay with rattle can color and clear coat
(im doing it now, tuck complete, paint today and tommorow, pics in a few days)
*correction, i wouldnt advise a wire tuck unless you know exactly which wire does what
