Which Crankshaft do I get for my ZC?
Okay, the machine shop told me my crankshaft was fucked. So what crankshaft do I need to get for my ZC? A junkyard told me 88-89 Integra full motor for 35 bucks, thats still in the car. So its probably rusted up and all but I will buy the motor and take it to the shop and have them machine that crank, to get it right. Anyway, let me know asap, thanks.
well for $35 i think its worth a try. have the machine shop measure the diameter of the crankshaft where the rods bolt up. you could also do a side-by-side comparison of the 2 crankshafts...
also the ZC is basically an 88-89 teg motor with a few civic parts. when i rebuilt my motor i used all 88-89 teg parts except for the oil pickup...

Thats what I will have them do then, I hope it will work. Thanks.
but i am pretty sure the teg crankshaft will work. the machine shop (if reputable) should be able to measure it up and let you know if there is a difference between the 2.

Yea, I am gonna have them measure and everything make sure its the right sizes, and all. I am going tomorrow. I went today but they were closing as i got there, and they told me whoever I talked to yesterday was full of it, they said its just the crank is 35, but it dont matter, that means more work there, lol.

good luck!

Get a SOHC D16A6 crank. The D16A1 crank has a smaller crank snout - the small timing belt pulley won't fit because it's bore is too big (the figures are something like, the ZC crank snout is 24mm, the D16A1 is 22mm).
You can't just run D16A1 timing pulley's either because of the water pump - it is different as well (pulley size and mounting pattern).

I took the D16a1 off the DOHC Teg. Anyway, I took the crankshaft to the machine shop and they told me everything will be fine, they said that the things(not the journals but the things next to it that are black, i call them guides or whatever) are bigger, but that wont make any difference, just in the balancing, or something like that they said. But it should work I am guessing.
I was told by numerous people that if I got the d16a6 crank, i would need the rods and pistons too.. Mostly everyone I talk to says get the 88-89 Teg balck valve cover crankshaft, so I did that, 5 hours at a junkyard, lol.

Try putting the ZC timing belt gear on the Integra crank. I am 90% sure that it is 2mm too big for the integra crank. The ZC uses a 17T timing belt gear and the Integra uses a 20T, so don't try using the integra unit.

Try it - take your ZC crank timing gear and put it on the Integra crank. I could be wrong, it's happened before, but a while back, I was looking into fitting the ZC timing gear set onto this D16A1 I'm rebuilding so that I could use the widely available ZC adj. cam gears (ZC cam gears are the same size as B-series). After dicovering all the little differences, I gave up on that idea. It might still be possible to use ALL the integra timing gears (crank and cams), but you need to find a belt that is the right length - the waterpumps are different sizes (# of teeth) and not interchangeable.
Your ZC has a 17T crank timing gear and 34T cam gears. That's a 2:1 ratio. The crank goes around 2 times for every one complete revloution of the cam. Even if you are able to fit the timing belt on with the 20T integra crank timing gear, the motor will not survive more than 1 revolution while your ZC gears are on the cams. That would be a 1.7:1 ratio.
Like I said, I could be wrong. I've personally never even had a ZC, but with a few D16A1's laying around, I've figured out a lot of the little things that are not the same.
I'd appreciate it if you let me know if I'm right or wrong.

Well the ZC and the TEG Cranks are the same other than the balancing things. The thing that makes the timing belt different are the cam gears, the Tegs are bigger than the ZC. I took my ZC timing gear and it fit right on the Teg Crank. So everything is working, and its costing me about 150 to get it right. 20 for the new rod, 45 for the crankshaft, 55 for the work, and 40 for bearings. I am hoping to get it running for next week, and start breaking it in again, hehe.
And just a FYI the rods and pistons in a TEG are the same exact ones that are in a ZC.
