Default Is this legal?

First, I tried searching, No Go on that. I have a 91 CRX Si and a set of 88Hf doors. If I swap the doors compleatley eliminating stock seat belts and install a 4 point harness will it still be legal? Any help would be appreciated.

Some cops will say yes, some will say no. I would try and instead B pillar mounted ones to not get hassled.

you do realize if you trade 88-89 doors to 90-91 doors on the outside you would have slimmer trim from your front and rear fenders for the 90-91 have slimmer trim, and the piece seperating the front and back window is thicker

I'm doing the same exact thing actually. The difference is I don't car about the law. I don't see how they would complain either, you are making it more safe.

Still doesn't make it safer on the street.

In CA we are going through another one of our random seat belt check phases right now. I've been pulled over twice this week for "not wearing my seatbelt." As soon as they saw the 4-point harness, they said "sorry, have a nice day."

Maybe I got lucky and had cool cops pull me over. You should still check the local laws.

If I recall, Schroth is the only company that offers a dot approved harness.

Make sure you get up with Mike he may have some good design ideas for safety and for strength. You know how those ingineeers are.

If you are going to DD this car with a cage and 4 point I would highly recommend not doing it. It is very hard to more in a harness which will limit your ability to see traffic. Also if your head comes in contact with that steal in an accident that is going to hurt A LOT. Even with padding on it that will not save you in an accident.

Nihkon pretty much said it!

The belts would have to be DOT (deparment of transportation) approved!

If you get stopped by a cop that is having a bad day, and even had approved belts, he could write you up and make you prove that the attachment was safe.

It's a very easy ticket to issue.

I wanted to do a roll bar that they could attatch to. If the bar is far enough away from my head and the harness does its job, I should be OK. If the accident is bad enough to crush the bar, there is a good chance that I would be screwed anyway. Is there a way to do it safely in a DD?

So I'm confused you say don't mount them to the floor? I have heard mount to B-pillar and original seatbelt bolt below? Does that qualify as floor?
