Default Ebay, Is it worth saving the money?

Like the title says I am pondering on weither or not to purchase parts of off ebay to try and pinch some coin, but I am wondering if the parts can be trusted? There are so many rumors about rip-offs and counterfits. I am asking for anyones input who has ordered or know someone who has ordered parts of off ebay about the integrity of the parts, the authenticity and shipping times. Any info is greatly appreciated.

You get what you pay for that all u have to remember.. look in the classifieds that might be a better place..if u have paypal i think u get like 10 days to cancel the order just in case of situations like that..

it really comes down to many different aspects of the individual auction and transaction. you have to analyze, make sure the seller is reputable, make sure there is an accurate description and just pick up on what kind of person would make this kind of listing, check the sellers past auctions, items won and sold.

you can get some great deals on ebay, just have to be smart about it, and be at the right place at the right time. also, compare prices on completed listings, that way you know what kind of deal you're looking for and what kind of prices the items ended for in the past.

in time you will figure it all out and master it. with enough use, you will however, be ripped off. it is the law of averages. there is a lot of fraud going on everywhere, especially ebay. but there are many things you can do to significantly reduce your chances of being ripped.

good luck finding what you want, and the price you want.

Watch out for knockoffs, only buy from reputable sellers. If its something like a filter, then ya, go for best deal, but if its a cruicial part to your car, like internals, I would be much more careful when buying. You get what you pay for. I've bought budget stuff and every time I've regreted it due to some problem or another, now I go all out and wait and save for quality parts.

Even with a reputable seller, nothing is guaranteed. People just reply that the transaction went smooth, not finding out till months later that they were ripped off for fake parts. Seriously save yourself the headache, spend the extra $$ and find a reputable SHOP. A real shop that you can call, walk into, talk to someone, ask questions and get them answered. It will be worth it in the long run.

i DO NOT buy from Ebay. Even if you find a legit seller, and legit parts, most of the time you're not getting that good of a deal. If you know someone who has a shop locally, they can probably give you the same price as you will find on Ebay, if not better. Plus, sellers on Ebay usually charge ridiculous amounts for shipping.

I look at ebay this way. If someone has 500, 800, 1000, 10000 sales and has an overwhelming amount of positive feedback (ie 98.6, 99, 99.78) than they are probably making a larger percentage of their customers happy than a walk in retail store is.

You can get screwed on ebay, but I have had some stores try to screw me when I walk in also. You can get screwed anywhere!

The bottom line is be thoughtful about how much money you are spending, will the seller communicate with you and answer your questions, how many happy buyers has this person had and could you get a better deal in person someplace. Another thing to keep in mind is if you are on the east or west coast you have a lot more places that sell parts, some of us who are land locked are ordering sight unseen no matter what and ebay works as good as anything.

I've spent over 4 grand, at least, on parts from Ebay and they have never been counterfeit and I've never gotten screwed in any way, shape, or form.

It would be in your best interest not to buy anything off of ebay. You get what you pay for.
Go the extra mile and pay a little more. You will not be disappointed. In other words... don't put crap off of ebay on your car because it will lead to problems.

Personally I have not bought anything over $200 on ebay. Just keep ur spending low and smart and it'll be worth your internet shopping. Plus if something goes wrong ebay has a policy where they'll refund a certain amount of your money, and if you keep the price of what you are buying low then chances are you'll get most of it back.

i sell and buy on ebay here are some words of advice. Check feedback, see what they sell and if people are happy. Recent auctions you can contact the buyer and ask him his opinion of the products.

BTW, people on ebay make less profit than retail stores because overhead is low.

Thats true.

I also feel that as long as u really know what ur looking for and don't expect to save a ton of money (cause if u do chances r u'll get ripped off) ebay is a pretty decent place to look for most low to moderatly priced car parts

to save $20? i'd rather go to the local shop or a vendor here.

its a piece of mind type of thing. if you're buying from a reputable seller, then you're fine.

its like buying fake nikes on ebay. a legit pair of cement IV's isn't going to be $100 from some dude in china/taiwan/asia.
